The 25th International Mathematics Competition in Da Nang: Spreading knowledge and spirit of innovation

ĐNO - After nearly a week of exciting competition in Da Nang, the 25th International Mathematics Competition - VIMC 2025 has come to an end, affirming a new step forward in Da Nang's international educational integration, spreading knowledge, the spirit of innovation and creativity, and strengthening friendship between Vietnam and international friends.

Professional and attentive

The 25th International Mathematics Competition - VIMC 2025 took place in Da Nang from August 14 to 19 with the participation of hundreds of contestants and international guests from 30 countries and territories. This was the first time it was held in Da Nang, but it left a deep impression on international friends.

The organization, from the preparation of facilities and human resources, to the reception, accommodation, activities and visits for international delegations, was carried out carefully by the city. Thereby, it demonstrated friendliness and hospitality, while affirming the city's capacity to organize international events.

Mr. Wang Jianfeng, Head of the Chinese delegation, said that the organization of the 25th International Mathematics Competition - VIMC 2025 in Da Nang was very professional and thoughtful.

“I felt the thoughtfulness and meticulousness in every step of the organization. Our flight to Da Nang was delayed, landing at 3am, but the organizers still sent volunteers to welcome and support us. We were very touched and grateful,” Mr. Wang Jianfeng shared.

Within the framework of the exam, in addition to professional activities such as official exams and seminars, the organizing committee also creates conditions for candidates and international guests to participate in entertainment activities, cultural exchanges and visit scenic spots of the city.

Mr. Wen-Hsien Sun, Chairman of the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) Executive Committee, said that the competition has been held in many different countries and cities, all of which are famous locations. Da Nang is a beautiful city with friendly people, good transportation and many tourist attractions. Therefore, IMC decided to hold this competition in Da Nang to contribute to spreading the city's image to international friends.

“For VIMC 2025, the Da Nang city government has made very good preparations, from facilities, attractions to opening and closing ceremonies and security work. All of these have created a very successful exam. In my experience, when students return home, they will say that Da Nang is very beautiful and come back to visit here,” said Mr. Wen-Hsien Sun.

Connecting international friendships

According to the VIMC 2025 Jury, this year's exam covered a wide range of mathematics and was more difficult than previous years. What impressed the jury were the accurate solutions, the diversity of approaches, and the creative thinking of the candidates.

This exam helped candidates learn many useful things, not only in Mathematics, but also in behavior, understanding and respecting the cultural identity of different countries.

Pham Bao Khanh, a contestant from the Vietnamese team, shared: "For me, the most valuable thing in this exam is being able to interact and meet friends from all over the world, and "enjoy" difficult math problems, which helps me improve my thinking and creativity."

Meanwhile, Maria Andreea Alexa, a contestant from the Romanian team, said: “I really love this competition because of its multiculturalism. Here, we have the opportunity to chat with friends and learn more about cultures from many different countries. The rounds of VIMC 2025 are very interesting, attractive, and different from what I have experienced before.”

At the closing ceremony on August 18, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes at three levels: individual, team and team. The Vietnamese delegation won 18 individual prizes (6 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 8 bronze medals). The team championship went to the Vietnamese and Singaporean teams.

According to Director of the Department of Education and Training Le Thi Bich Thuan, the VIMC 2025 exam is not only a place for candidates to challenge their intelligence with difficult problems, but also a journey to experience culture, expand friendships, and connect passions. 553 candidates from 30 countries and territories bring to Da Nang a youthful, vibrant, intellectual, and enthusiastic atmosphere.

“You guys competed honestly, tried your best, and proved that Mathematics can connect hearts and transcend all borders. When you leave Da Nang, I hope you will bring back not only memories and math problems, but also international friendships and unforgettable experiences of a hospitable, resilient and humane city,” Ms. Thuan said.

The International Mathematics Competition (IMC) is held in rotation among member countries for excellent secondary school mathematics students from more than 40 countries and territories around the world. After VIMC 2025 held in Da Nang, the competition will be held in Mongolia in 2026.
