Phitsanulok Province is located on the gentle Nan River, nearly 400km from Bangkok. This place has an ancient city with a history of more than 600 years.
In Phitsanulok city, historical relics are still preserved. Among them, Somdej Phra Naraesuan Temple is an important religious site for local people, attracting many visitors from all over.

The temple is located in the middle of an ancient citadel - the only remains are rows of bricks. Walking through the path with green grass and shady trees, visitors can admire the ancient temple. This is the place to worship King Naresuan (1555-1605) - the 18th king of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.
The temple has three roofs, inside is a statue of King Naresuan sitting and pouring water from a golden bowl. The temple space is always quiet, and is maintained by the people.
Walking around the temple, visitors can see thousands of chicken statues with impressive sizes and colors, from large to small, arranged around and along the entrance. Among them, there are chickens over 1 meter tall that are offered by believers to the gods to pray for luck, career advancement and success.

Thai people said that the offering of the rooster statue at this temple originated from a historical story. Accordingly, when Ayutthaya was under the control of Burma (today's Myanmar), Crown Prince Naresuan had a cockfight with a Burmese prince and won. Since then, many Thai people consider fighting cocks a symbol of strength.
King Naresuan was also the commander of the troops that liberated this land from Burmese occupation during the Ayutthaya dynasty.
Phitsanulok Province is known as the city of two rivers, because it is the meeting point of the Nan and Kwae Noi rivers. Among them, the most popular tourist attraction is Wat Phra Si Mahathat Woramahaviharn. This place has the most beautiful Buddha statue in Thailand.
