Currently, the conjunctivitis outbreak remains complex in Lao Cai province, with 108 outbreaks in 7 out of 9 districts, cities, and towns.
The Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health advises that although conjunctivitis is an acute disease with pronounced symptoms and is easily contagious, it is usually benign and rarely leaves sequelae. However, if patients self-medicate, it can cause reduced vision, corneal scarring, especially with corticosteroid-containing drugs, which, if used long-term, can lead to dangerous complications, even blindness.

There is no vaccine for conjunctivitis, so to prevent complications, people need to take preventive measures as well as seek treatment for the disease.
Therefore, when suffering from conjunctivitis, patients should maintain personal hygiene by using separate washbasins and towels, wearing masks, and wearing sunglasses to limit the spread of infection. If you have the disease, it is best to go to a medical facility for an eye examination, especially to see a specialist.
The People's Committee of Lao Cai province has directed the health sector to strengthen surveillance, early detection, and timely handling of conjunctivitis outbreaks, and to organize guidance on implementing infection control measures in kindergartens, schools, agencies, and the community.
At the same time, it is required that medical facilities in the province organize effective consultation and treatment, promptly notify units and localities with patients to implement disease prevention measures, prepare sufficient supplies of medicines, materials, chemicals, and equipment for epidemic prevention and control, and strengthen hospital infection control in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health .
