Continuous detection of cigarette smuggling cases across the border near Tet

On January 18, speaking to Thanh Nien reporter, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Minh Hoang, Head of the Traffic Police Department of Long An Province Police, said that the unit had just discovered and arrested many smuggling cases in the border area with Cambodia. At the same time, the unit is in the peak period of attacking and suppressing crimes, ensuring traffic order and safety, ensuring security and order to protect the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024.

The smuggled goods are being held in custody.

Accordingly, at approximately 3:00 AM on January 11th, the Waterway Police force ( thuộc the Traffic Police Department of Long An Provincial Police) coordinated with the Binh Thanh Commune Police and the Duc Hue District Police to conduct an ambush against smuggling on the Tra Cu Thuong canal (in Binh Thanh commune, Duc Hue district, Long An province). They discovered a group of people unloading cigarettes from a motorboat onto the canal bank. Upon spotting the anti-smuggling force, these individuals fled in their motorboat, leaving behind the evidence: 10,400 packs of cigarettes of various brands.

Earlier, at 11:00 AM on January 6th, at Mo Heo Canal (Chanh Hamlet, Binh Hoa Bac Commune, Duc Hue District), the Waterway Police Team, while on a stakeout, discovered and apprehended a case of transporting prohibited goods (smuggled cigarettes). The violators could not be identified, and the seized items and equipment included 1,450 packs of foreign cigarettes, one generator, and one composite plastic boat.

Currently, the exhibits are being seized according to regulations and the owner of these contraband goods is being searched for.

Besides cigarettes, imported liquor and household goods of unknown origin are also frequently found in this area.

According to authorities in Long An province, Duc Hue is one of the districts in Long An province that shares a border with Cambodia. As Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, the smuggling of prohibited goods and goods of unknown origin from Cambodia into Vietnam for consumption becomes very complex.
