Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) has just organized a seminar on the combined admission method to inform about the method of construction and evaluation of actual implementation at the unit.

Speaking at the seminar, Dr. Duong Ton Thai Duong, Deputy Head of the Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that in 2025, the University has agreed to implement 3 university admission methods. Specifically, including: direct admission; admission based on the results of the capacity assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University; Admission based on the results of the high school exam. At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City National University also encourages units to develop a combined admission method.

Regarding the direct admission method, Dr. Duong Ton Thai Duong said that Ho Chi Minh City National University plans to maintain the admission criteria stable compared to previous years and integrate admission targets. In particular, regarding the direct admission method for excellent and talented candidates, the University plans to set an admission threshold that can be the high school graduation exam score or high school academic results.

In addition, the admission method based on the results of the competency assessment test and the high school graduation exam will also be adjusted to appropriate weights. It is expected that the admission plan of Ho Chi Minh City National University will be completed by December 15 and announced immediately after.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thien Phuc, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that in 2025, the school plans to have two main admission methods: Direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and the regulations of Ho Chi Minh City National University; Combined admission (assessing capacity, high school graduation exam results, high school academic performance and other capacities). For the transfer and joint programs (considering 150 targets), the school will use the interview method and admission based on international certificates.

In response to students' concerns about whether it is necessary to take the competency assessment exam to be eligible for admission to the school in 2025, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thien Phuc said that in the combined admission method, the competency assessment exam score is an important criterion. However, the school still has a plan to convert from high school graduation exam scores to competency assessment exam scores for candidates who do not take this exam. Even candidates with competency assessment exam scores from Hanoi National University will be converted to competency assessment exam scores from Ho Chi Minh City National University according to the prescribed coefficient.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thien Phuc, the implementation of the combined method will fully assess the candidates' abilities, creating fairness for candidates to participate in the selection process. At the same time, this contributes to diversifying the recruitment sources, creating motivation to study and participate in related cultural, sports and artistic activities.

Previously, in the period of 2022-2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology has implemented 5 main admission methods: Direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; Priority admission, direct admission according to the regulations of Ho Chi Minh City National University; Admission of candidates with international certificates, foreign candidates; Admission of high school exam results combined with interviews for candidates planning to study abroad; Admission by combined method.

For the combined admission method of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, candidates are evaluated based on many factors: academic performance, personal achievements and social activities - culture, sports and arts. Specifically, the academic factor includes 3 components: high school learning results, high school graduation exam scores, and competency assessment test scores with the weights of the components and score conversion rules decided by the school's Admissions Council. The personal achievement factor includes national excellent student competition awards, science and technology awards, foreign language proficiency, international admission certificates and other academic awards. In addition, we also focus on social activities, culture, sports and arts.
