Le Viet Hoang Anh was born in Tho Dan commune, Trieu Son district (Thanh Hoa province) into a farming family. Hoang Anh's parents were self-employed but always prioritized their child's education and encouraged him to learn independently from a young age.
Le Viet Hoang Anh's family felt happy and moved by their son's achievement.
After being admitted to the specialized Physics class at Lam Son High School for the 2020-2023 academic year, Hoang Anh faced many difficulties having to live far from home, feeling disoriented by the new school, new teachers, and new friends.
With the school 30km from his home, Le Viet Hoang Anh had to stay in the school dormitory. In particular, the enormous amount of knowledge in Physics left him feeling overwhelmed.
However, thanks to the dedicated care and guidance of Mr. Nguyen Hoang Ha, a physics teacher and homeroom teacher, who discovered Hoang Anh's potential as a talented student, he gradually guided, taught, and encouraged her to overcome her initial shyness, integrate with her peers, and quickly rise to the occasion to prove herself.
Speaking with a reporter from the Newspaper of Journalists and Public Opinion, Le Viet Hoang Anh shared that he has loved Physics since junior high school. After being admitted to the specialized Physics class at Lam Son High School for the Gifted, he had the opportunity to study Physics in depth and found a suitable set of books to begin preparing for the National Excellent Student Examination.
Le Viet Hoang Anh is a 12th-grade student specializing in Physics at Lam Son High School for Gifted Students.
In 11th grade, Le Viet Hoang Anh was selected for the National Team. This was a great opportunity for him to further his knowledge by learning and exchanging ideas with senior students on the team, and learning from his teachers. After much effort, Le Viet Hoang Anh excelled and won second prize in the National Excellent Student Competition in Physics.
Le Viet Hoang Anh asserted that to excel in studies, one must first have a passion for the subject.
In the 2022-2023 National Excellent Student Selection Competition, Le Viet Hoang Anh excellently won first prize. With this achievement, Hoang Anh is one of 43 students nationwide selected to be trained and chosen as one of the 8 students to participate in the 23rd APhO competition in Mongolia.
Whenever I get to go home, I always help my parents with household chores.
Le Viet Hoang Anh shared that the time to prepare for this exam was quite short, coupled with many difficulties encountered while being far from home. There were days when teachers and students had to travel 200-300 km to attend classes, but Hoang Anh managed to overcome them.
And that effort paid off; she was one of eight outstanding students selected for the national team to compete in the APhO (Asian Phonographical Olympiad). In this competition, Hoang Anh and her teammates in the national team all excelled and won awards.
With her Certificate of Merit from the APhO exam, Hoang Anh was one of five contestants selected to join the national team for the 53rd IPhO exam in Japan. Immediately upon returning from the APhO exam, Hoang Anh and her teammates diligently prepared for the IPhO exam from May 31st to July 8th, 2023, with the highest level of determination.
Le Viet Hoang Anh has won numerous awards at national, Asian, and international competitions.
Recalling those training days, Hoang Anh's schedule was almost full every week (7 days/week and 3 sessions/day). Despite the pressure and hardship, she ultimately excelled, winning a Silver Medal at the 53rd IPhO competition in Japan. Hoang Anh's achievement contributed to Vietnam's victory with 2 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals, and 1 Bronze Medal, bringing glory to her homeland.
Regarding her study methods, Hoang Anh said that whenever she encounters a difficult problem and can't find a solution, she usually pauses to relax by reading English books or stories to clear her mind before continuing to research the solution.
There are some problems and phenomena that take me up to a week to solve. But once I understand them, I can deduce the solutions to many other problems. A difficult problem can open up many new possibilities if you successfully overcome that challenge.
Hoang Anh shared that Physics helps her explain many natural phenomena and feels that the subject has many applications in daily life.
The People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province awarded a Certificate of Commendation to Le Viet Hoang Anh.
Speaking about her future plans, Hoang Anh said she will continue to pursue Physics and related fields in Physics engineering such as Control and Automation. Currently, she has been directly admitted to the University of Technology - Vietnam National University , Hanoi .
Sharing her feelings with her son, Ms. Le Thi Hao, mother of Le Viet Hoang Anh, said that when she heard the news that her son had won an international silver medal, she was very moved, happy, and proud of him. Remembering the days when her son was studying far away, she felt both love and longing for him, but she had to try to encourage him so that he could focus on his studies.
"Because my son lives far away and is often away at school, I only dare to text him to check on him. Whenever we have something delicious at home, his mother rides her motorbike 30km to the school to send it to him. Even if there's only one delicious dish, she insists on bringing it down," the boy's father shared.
The journey of Le Viet Hoang Anh and his teacher Nguyen Hoang Ha to conquer medals in regional and international competitions was a long one, and the intensity and pressure increased towards the end. The achievements of both teacher and student not only continue the glorious tradition of Lam Son High School for the Gifted but also contribute to the brilliance of the education sector in Thanh Hoa province - a land of learning.
