Male student brings glory to Thanh Hoa land of learning

Le Viet Hoang Anh was born in Tho Dan commune, Trieu Son district (Thanh Hoa) into a farming family. Hoang Anh's parents were self-employed but always put their child's education first and encouraged him to study on his own from a young age.

After being admitted to the Physics specialized class at Lam Son High School for the Gifted, class of 2020 - 2023, Hoang Anh encountered many difficulties when having to study far from home, feeling confused with the new school, new teachers, and new friends.

The school is 30km away from home, so Le Viet Hoang Anh has to stay in the school dormitory. In particular, the huge amount of knowledge in Physics has overwhelmed him.

However, with the care and dedicated teaching of teacher Nguyen Hoang Ha, a Physics teacher and homeroom teacher, he discovered the qualities of a good student, step by step guiding, teaching, and encouraging Hoang Anh to overcome the initial confusion, integrate with friends and quickly overcome to prove himself.

Talking to reporters of the Journalist and Public Opinion Newspaper, Le Viet Hoang Anh shared that he has loved Physics since he was in middle school. After passing the entrance exam to the Physics specialized class at Lam Son High School for the Gifted, he had the opportunity to research and study Physics in depth and he found a suitable set of books to start reviewing for the National Excellent Student exam.

In grade 11, Le Viet Hoang Anh was admitted to the National Team. This was a good opportunity for him to gain more new knowledge by learning and exchanging with seniors in the same team, and learning from teachers. After many efforts, Le Viet Hoang Anh excellently won the second prize in the National Excellent Student Physics Competition.

Le Viet Hoang Anh affirmed that to study well, one must first have passion for the subject.

In the National Excellent Student Competition for the 2022-2023 school year, Le Viet Hoang Anh won the first prize. With the results achieved in the National Excellent Student Competition, Hoang Anh is one of 43 students nationwide who were trained to select 8 students for the team to compete in the 23rd APhO in Mongolia.

Le Viet Hoang Anh shared that the time to review for this exam was quite short, plus there were many difficulties encountered when living far from home. There were days when teachers and students had to travel 200 - 300 km to go to school, but Hoang Anh tried to overcome it.

And that effort was rewarded with sweet fruit, he was one of 8 excellent students to be selected for the national team to compete in the APhO. In this competition, Hoang Anh and his friends in the National Team all won excellent prizes.

With the Certificate of Merit in the APhO exam, Hoang Anh is one of the 5 candidates who continue to be selected for the national team to compete in the 53rd IPhO in Japan. As soon as he returned from the APhO exam, Hoang Anh and his teammates urgently reviewed and prepared for the IPhO exam from May 31 to July 8, 2023 with the highest determination.

Recalling the days of studying, Hoang Anh's study schedule was almost full (7 days/week and 3 sessions/day). Despite the pressure and hardship, he finally won the Silver Medal at the 53rd IPhO in Japan. Hoang Anh's achievements contributed to the victory of the Vietnamese team with 2 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals and 1 Bronze Medal, bringing glory to his homeland and country.

Regarding learning methods, Hoang Anh said that whenever he has a difficult problem and cannot find a solution, he often stops to relax by reading English books or stories to clear his mind and then continues to research how to solve it.

There are some problems and phenomena that take me a week to solve. But once I understand them, I can deduce the solutions to many other problems. A difficult problem can open up many new things if I successfully conquer that challenge.

Hoang Anh shared that Physics helps him explain many phenomena in nature and feels that this subject can be applied a lot in daily life.

Talking about his future plans, Hoang Anh said that he will continue to pursue Physics and other fields related to Physics engineering such as Control and Automation. Currently, he has been directly admitted to the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Sharing her feelings with her son, Ms. Le Thi Hao, mother of Le Viet Hoang Anh, said that when she heard the news that her son had won the International Silver Medal, she was very touched, happy and proud of him. Thinking back to the days when her son was away studying, she both loved and missed him but had to try to encourage him to study with peace of mind.

"My son lives far away and has to go to school a lot, so I only dare to text him to ask about him. Whenever there is something delicious at home, my mother rides her motorbike 30km to school to send it to him. Even when there is only one delicious dish, she still asks to bring it down," the boy's father shared.

The journey to conquer medals in regional and international arenas of Le Viet Hoang Anh and teacher Nguyen Hoang Ha is a long journey and the closer to the end, the greater the density, intensity of study and pressure. The achievements that both teachers and students have achieved not only continue the glorious tradition of Lam Son High School for the Gifted but also contribute to the glory of the education sector of Thanh Hoa - a land of learning.
