On May 27th, the Government Office issued a document regarding the implementation of the 2024 Anti-Drug Action Month.
Accordingly, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Chairman of the National Committee for AIDS, Drug, and Prostitution Prevention and Control, requested ministries, sectors, and localities to direct the implementation of the Month of Action for Drug Prevention and Control from June 1st to June 30th, with the theme "Joining hands to build drug-free communes, wards, and towns".
The Deputy Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Public Security to launch a nationwide crackdown on drug-related crimes; focusing on combating and eradicating drug hotspots and complex drug-related areas in communes, wards, and towns; investigating and dismantling inter-provincial and transnational drug trafficking and transportation organizations and networks; and uncovering entire networks, arresting everyone from the ringleaders to the retail dealers.
The Ministry of Public Security has directed local police forces to review, compile statistics, analyze, and assess the situation of drug addicts and illegal drug users, especially those exhibiting psychotic symptoms or "methamphetamine-induced psychosis"; thereby developing strict management plans, particularly in key, complex areas with high concentrations of workers, industrial zones, export processing zones, and large urban development projects...; and to continue effectively implementing the work of identifying addiction status and creating dossiers for the application of appropriate rehabilitation measures.
The Ministry of Education and Training, the Central Youth Union, and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor are directing the organization of drug prevention and control propaganda activities for officials, union members, students, workers, and laborers, focusing on raising awareness about the consequences and harmful effects of drugs; the tactics used to entice and lure young people into using drugs, especially synthetic drugs and drugs disguised as food items such as confectionery, beverages, herbs, and e-cigarettes; and solutions for prevention and control.
The People's Committees of provinces and cities direct specialized forces, primarily the police force, to vigorously combat drug crimes, eradicate drug hotspots and complex drug-related areas; strictly control legitimate activities related to drugs; review and implement effective management solutions for businesses operating under conditions related to security and order, preventing individuals from exploiting these conditions to carry out drug-related crimes.
At the same time, the People's Committees of provinces and cities directed relevant agencies to closely coordinate with the police force to review, compile statistics, and accurately assess the situation of drug addicts and illegal drug users for management purposes, especially those exhibiting psychotic symptoms or drug-induced psychosis, to prevent these individuals from causing incidents that disrupt public order and security.
