Jaylin Williams has a Vietnamese grandmother. His mother is half Vietnamese. Born in Arkansas in 2002, he grew up playing high school basketball in the United States. In 2022, he joined the Oklahoma City Thunder and served as a reserve player.
However, the more he played, the more Williams matured and made important contributions. This NBA season, the 22-year-old center achieved his best career statistics, such as 5.9 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, and 0.6 blocks per game – crucial statistics for a center.
In the championship playoffs, the 22-year-old was a strategic reserve player. In Game 6 of the finals against the Pacers, Williams played 12 minutes but managed to contribute 7 points and 5 rebounds to secure a crucial victory, paving the way for his team's championship win in Game 7 this morning.

Thus, by leading the Thunder to victory, Williams became the first player of Vietnamese descent to win an NBA championship, the most exciting basketball league on the planet. Williams is perhaps the most successful figure among the Vietnamese-American athletes in the United States.
Besides Williams, there was another player of Vietnamese descent in the NBA: Johnny Juzang. He spent two seasons with the Utah Jazz. After not being selected for the starting lineup, he was relegated to the lower division to play for Salt Lake City. The twin sisters Truong Thao My and Truong Thao Vy left the US to pursue their careers. In women's soccer, Jaedyn Shaw, whose mother is Vietnamese, is also very prominent, having played 26 games for the US national team and scored 8 goals.
