The Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team made a strong impression at the 38th Sepak Takraw World Championships, held from July 22nd to 27th in Songkhla, Thailand, which brought together many strong teams from the region and around the world. Vietnam fielded a strong team, reaching three finals but ultimately losing in the women's 3-person and men's 4-person events.

The Vietnamese team lost the first set.
Going against the current successfully
All hopes rest on the final of the women's four-person team event, where Trần Thị Ngọc Yến and her teammates will face the host nation Thailand on the court in front of thousands of spectators filling the stands of the Central Hatyai Gymnasium. Thailand is truly eager to settle the score after their defeat in the Sepak Takraw World Cup final in March 2025, as well as their loss in the 2022 World Championship final, both against Vietnam.
After trailing 12-15 in the first set, the Vietnamese girls staged a strong comeback to win both subsequent sets with scores of 15-8 and 15-7, completing a powerful and impressive turnaround right in Thailand, the "holy land of sepak takraw".

The final match exploded in the last two sets with Vietnam dominating.
This is the third time the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team has won the world championship in the four-person event. Besides defeating Thailand in 2022 and 2025, they also beat Indonesia in the 2023 final.
Last year, the Vietnamese women's team lost to Thailand in the final.
After narrowly losing the first set, the resilience of the Vietnamese players, coupled with the sound tactical adjustments of coach Tran Thi Vui, brought unexpected success. On the home team's side, after conceding the equalizer to make it 1-1, the players' morale dropped somewhat, leading to a series of errors in both first-touch reception and attack.

A final missed serve cost Thailand the championship.
Regrettable decision regarding the men's selection.
In the men's four-person final, the Vietnamese team once again missed out on the championship title, losing to Japan 0-2 (7-15, 10-15) in the final match held on the morning of July 27th. This marks the fourth consecutive time the Vietnamese men's team has lost in the world final, following defeats against South Korea (2022) and Thailand (2023, 2024).

Vietnam wins world championship for the third time.
The 38th Sepak Takraw World Championships took place from July 22nd to 27th, featuring six events: 2-person, 3-person, 4-person, juggling, team, and mixed. Vietnam won a total of 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals.
Sepak Takraw is now an official event at the Asian Games (ASIAD) and at the 33rd SEA Games later this year, host nation Thailand is a strong contender in all events.
