On the afternoon of October 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) said that home-cooked meals are not only a source of energy for the body, but also a bond of love between family members. Maintaining a balanced, nutritious and economical meal is the key to long-term health and happiness.
A healthy meal must meet the four main food groups: starch, protein, fat, fresh vegetables and fruits to fully nourish the body.
According to WHO, adults should eat at least 400g of vegetables and fruits per day, but Vietnamese people only get about 231g.
Therefore, each meal should include vegetables of many colors such as green, red, yellow, purple to provide a variety of nutrients and natural antioxidants, helping the body become healthier every day.
In the busy pace of life, many people tend to rely on processed foods, eat repetitively and waste.
To ensure meals are nutritious and inexpensive, each family should plan a weekly menu - a simple way to balance portions, save time and money. When shopping, choose fresh, seasonal foods with clear origins and only buy enough for use.
When cooking, prioritize methods that retain natural flavors and nutritional values such as steaming, boiling, and cooking soup; limit deep frying with a lot of oil and absolutely do not reuse used cooking oil.
According to HCDC, organizing balanced, nutritious and economical family meals is not only an act of health care but also a way to foster affection and create healthy living habits.
Each family should start with small but practical changes: eat enough of the four food groups, increase vegetables, cook just enough portions, avoid waste and enjoy warm home-cooked meals together every day.
