On the morning of June 24th, at the Nguyen Du Gymnasium (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), the 2023 Thanh Nien Open 3-Cushion Billiards Tournament, organized by the Thanh Nien Newspaper Journalists' Association in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists' Association, held its opening ceremony and competitions began from the round of 32.
The opening ceremony was attended by journalist Tran Viet Hung (Chairman of the Thanh Nien Newspaper Journalists' Association) and journalist Duong Vu Thong (Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists' Association), co-chairs of the organizing committee, along with many famous former Vietnamese billiards players such as Ly The Vinh (SEA Games 1997 gold medalist) and Duong Hoang Anh (ASIAD 2002 silver medalist). In addition, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Head of Finance of the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation, was also present to encourage the players and personally provided financial support to the organizing committee.

On June 24th, the rounds of 32, 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals were all very exciting. In particular, in the round for the top four players, spectators witnessed two dramatic matches as the champions of the 2022 Youth Billiards Tournament, Nguyen Huy Hoang (VOV, 3-cushion carom) and Nguyen Minh Tam (Nhan Dan Newspaper, 3-cushion carom), faced off against two guest female players, Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi and Luong Thi Thom, respectively.
With the composure of a national champion and silver medalist in the 3-cushion carom billiards event at the 2023 SEA Games, Yen Nhi, despite losing to Huy Hoang in the first set, staged a remarkable comeback to win with a final score of 2-1 and become the first athlete to qualify for the final.
In the final match, Nguyen Hoang Yen Nhi continued her winning streak by defeating Nguyen Minh Tam to claim the championship title at the 2nd Thanh Nien Open 3-Cushion Billiards Tournament - Viet Value Cup 2023.
After scoring the final point of the tournament, Yen Nhi expressed: "Honestly, I'm a little tired, but very happy. I was very nervous, and this championship wasn't easy to win. There were many very good players, not professional, but not amateurs either. I also had to go into the final set many times to win. Besides that, I also needed a little luck to be able to lift the trophy."

Present at the tournament on the official competition day, journalist Duong Vu Thong shared: "Billiards is a very interesting sport , requiring concentration, technique, creativity, and is loved by journalists, so the number of participants in the tournament is quite large. For those in charge of organizing, creating a playground that many people participate in is a source of happiness. I think this tournament is suitable for the wishes of journalists; besides their professional work, it's a place for them to indulge their passion, socialize, strengthen solidarity, and learn from each other."
This year, the tournament has expanded to include female players who were once part of the national team at the SEA Games, making the atmosphere even more exciting. Players have the opportunity to compete against professional athletes, which will help improve their skills. In the coming years, the organizers are also planning to expand the tournament nationwide, not just to Ho Chi Minh City."
