The G42 Group of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to invest 2 billion USD to build an AI (Artificial Intelligence) metadata center in Ho Chi Minh City.
The information was stated by Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City Lam Dinh Thang at the presentation session of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress on the morning of October 15.
In the next 5 years, Ho Chi Minh City has identified a number of major goals such as synthetic factors contributing at least 60%, digital economy accounting for 30-40% of GRDP, and by 2030 becoming an international-class innovation center and creative startup ecosystem.
The city strives to be in the top 100 most dynamic cities globally, with at least five international standard research centers in strategic technology fields.

To realize these goals, the Director of the Department of Science and Technology said the city will focus on three strategic breakthroughs. In particular, Ho Chi Minh City will focus on attracting strategic investors in the field of science and technology.
"Good news for Ho Chi Minh City is that the G42 group of the United Arab Emirates plans to invest in an AI metadata center with a capital of nearly 2 billion USD in the city," said Mr. Lam Dinh Thang.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has reported to the Central Government about the G42 project and set up a working group to work with investors. In addition, Ho Chi Minh City is also attracting investment in large and super large data centers to serve the development of technology infrastructure.
In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will prioritize the development of technologies that are its strengths such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, semiconductor chips, robots, blockchain and biomedicine. Ho Chi Minh City plans to establish a fund to support startups under a new model, attracting capital from venture capital funds, and at the same time focusing on supporting resources for potential innovation centers.
According to the Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, the factor reflecting the contribution of science and technology to the city's economic growth (TFP) is expected to reach 59% by the end of 2025, and will continue to play a leading role in the 2025-2030 period.
Ho Chi Minh City's digital economy is also growing rapidly, contributing 22% of GRDP in 2024 and expected to increase to 25% in 2025. Ho Chi Minh City is ranked 2nd in the country in terms of digital transformation index and national innovation index.
The city's innovative startup ecosystem is ranked 110th globally and 5th in Southeast Asia. Ho Chi Minh City's digital finance and blockchain sector is ranked 30th in the world.
“These positive results are a solid foundation for Ho Chi Minh City to make a breakthrough in the next 5 years,” Mr. Lam Dinh Thang emphasized.
