The play depicts the life and career of the patriotic scholar Tang Bat Ho (1858 - 1906), whose real name was Tang Doan Van - a prominent historical figure in the anti-French resistance movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Born in An Thuong village, Van Duc commune, Bong Son district, Hoai Nhon prefecture, Binh Dinh province (now Van Duc commune, Gia Lai province), Tang Bat Ho was a courageous and spirited man, renowned for his literary and martial skills. He was the leader of the Can Vuong movement in northern Binh Dinh, guided Phan Boi Chau to Japan, and together with Phan Boi Chau initiated the Dong Du movement.
Patriot Tang Bat Ho left a profound mark on the history of the national liberation struggle, serving as a shining example of patriotism, unwavering determination, and the nation's aspiration for independence and freedom.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Quynh, Director of the Gia Lai Provincial Traditional Arts Theatre, the play is planned to be staged over 90 performances, followed by a final rehearsal.
The production team will utilize traditional Vietnamese opera techniques combined with meticulously crafted sets, music, and costumes to recreate the character of the patriotic scholar Tang Bat Ho, conveying a message about patriotism and the strength of national unity.

The staging of the new historical play "Aspiration for the Nation" by the Gia Lai Provincial Traditional Arts Theatre contributes to enriching the repertoire of traditional plays to serve the people, introducing the image of historical figures from the homeland of "martial arts and literary arts" to a wider audience.
It is expected that in October, the theater will also begin staging a new Bài Chòi folk opera to expand its repertoire.
