The Office of the State Council of Professors has just announced the list of 630 candidates for professor and associate professor positions that were approved by the State Council of Professors for the 2018-2023 term at its 12th session (November 4-5).
The State Council of Professors for the 2018-2023 term held its 12th session to approve the list of candidates who met the standards for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor for the 2023 review season.
Compared to the figures previously announced by the Office of the State Council of Professors, 2 professor candidates and 19 associate professor candidates who had been approved by the sectoral councils are now excluded from the state-level council's list. According to statistics from the Office of the State Council of Professors, the percentage of candidates who passed the state-level review reached 97% compared to the lists submitted by the sectoral councils.
Of the two candidates for professorship who were not included in the state-level council list, one was from the Interdisciplinary Council on Animal Husbandry - Veterinary Medicine - Fisheries; and the other was from the Law Sector Council.
Among the 19 associate professor candidates who were not included in the state-level council list, some are no longer on the list approved by the disciplinary council. According to the explanation from the Office of the State Professor Council, these are candidates who, although previously approved by the disciplinary council, have withdrawn their applications.
The remaining candidates include 4 in medicine, 3 in biology, and 2 in the interdisciplinary field of chemistry and food technology; each of the following interdisciplinary fields has one candidate not included in the state council list: pharmacy, transportation, agriculture and forestry, history, archaeology and ethnology, literature, arts and physical education, and construction and architecture.
According to statistics from Thanh Nien Newspaper (based on the latest list published by the Office of the State Council of Professors), the field with the most candidates for Professor and Associate Professor positions passing the final round is economics with 92 candidates (6 Professors, 86 Associate Professors). Other fields with many candidates passing the final round include interdisciplinary chemistry - food technology, 54 candidates (6 Professors, 48 Associate Professors); interdisciplinary mechanical engineering - power engineering, 43 candidates (6 Professors, 37 Associate Professors); and medicine, 63 candidates (6 Professors, 57 Associate Professors).
The fields with the fewest candidates were metallurgy (1 Professor, 2 Associate Professors); interdisciplinary history - archaeology - ethnology (no Professor candidates, 3 Associate Professors); linguistics (no Professor candidates, 4 Associate Professors); and literature (no Professor candidates, 4 Associate Professors).
The fields with no professor candidates include pharmacy (with 7 associate professor candidates); education (with 8 associate professor candidates); and interdisciplinary philosophy - archaeology - ethnology (with 14 associate professor candidates).
This year's professorship and associate professorship review season is taking place against a backdrop of many ambiguities (also known as gray areas) in Vietnamese science, making it difficult to distinguish between honest and dishonest scientists.
Many candidates have been accused on social media of lacking integrity, but the relevant disciplinary councils have stated that there is no basis to determine that these candidates violated scientific integrity. As a result, the majority of candidates currently accused of lacking integrity by the online community are already on the list approved by the State Professor Council, including many candidates who met the criteria for professorship.
It is understood that 15 days after the announcement of the results of the Professor and Associate Professor evaluation by the State Professor Council, the Chairman of the State Professor Council will sign the decision and issue certificates recognizing the candidates as having met the standards for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor.
