Urban areas experienced lower price increases than rural areas (urban areas increased by 1.23%, rural areas by 1.41%).
The main reasons for the increase in the CPI in January were primarily due to a 17.33% increase in medical service prices and a 0.27% increase in the price of medicines and medical equipment, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health (Circulars No. 21/2024/TT-BYT and 23/2024/TT-BYT) and provincial regulations effective from January 1, 2025 (Resolution No. 115/NQ-HĐND dated December 11, 2024 of the Provincial People's Council regulating the prices of medical examination and treatment services at state-owned medical facilities under the management authority of Hai Duong province).
The Lunar New Year falls at the end of January, and increased consumer demand leads to price increases for some goods.
Eight groups of goods and services saw price increases, while two groups experienced price decreases, with the education group remaining stable. Among the groups with price increases, several saw significant gains, impacting the overall CPI, such as: medicines and medical services (up 13.31%); transportation (up 0.76%); housing, electricity, water, fuel, and construction materials (up 0.22%); and household equipment and appliances (up 0.19%).
Conversely, prices of some items in January decreased slightly compared to the previous month, such as: the culture, entertainment and tourism group decreased by 0.1%; the postal and telecommunications group decreased by 0.06%.
