Farmers help each other develop economically.

Identifying sustainable economic development and poverty reduction as one of the key programs for 2025, the Provincial Farmers' Association has intensified propaganda, technology transfer, capital support, and created conditions for its members, especially ethnic minority farmers, to rise out of poverty and overcome difficulties to become wealthy.

With the support of the commune's Farmers' Association, the family of Mr. Sung A Ninh, in Ta Chu village, Phinh Ho commune, boldly borrowed capital to expand their pig farm and develop the breeding of local pig breeds. From the initial 2 breeding pigs, the herd has now grown to 23 pigs.

Mr. Ninh shared: “Pig farming provides a stable income for my family. After raising them for 4-5 months, we can sell them, and after deducting expenses, we earn a profit of 40-50 million VND. My family regularly receives guidance from local Farmers' Association officials, so we know how to prevent diseases and care for the pigs. In the future, we plan to expand our pig farming operation.”

After the merger, the Farmers' Association of Phinh Ho commune has 15 branches with over 1,320 members. Mr. Giang A Du, Chairman of the commune's Farmers' Association, said: After the merger and the implementation of the two-tiered local government model, the Farmers' Association has focused on disseminating information about policies and regulations to the people. In particular, it has guided farmer members in developing their economy towards a commodity-based approach; regularly reviewed and evaluated production and business models in the area, and provided timely support solutions.

Not only in Phinh Ho, but after the merger, all levels of the Farmers' Association in the province have proactively advised the Party committees and authorities to propagate and mobilize cadres, members, and farmers to register for emulation campaigns, actively participate in and respond to the movement, focusing on coordinating and promoting activities to directly support farmers in science and technology, seeds, capital, materials, production and business linkages; transforming the structure of crops and livestock, expanding the scale of production and business, contributing to increasing income and reducing poverty in the locality. They have directed grassroots Farmers' Associations to focus on advising rural laborers on vocational training, orienting vocational training according to the value chain of commodity products, and proactively surveying the needs for vocational training, especially for ethnic minorities.

Opening vocational training courses and technology transfer workshops that closely match the actual needs of each locality; and align with the recruitment needs of businesses and production and trading establishments...

Since the beginning of the year, 3,933 members have received training in science and technology; 81,315 member households have been provided with knowledge on agricultural production, processing, and consumption, ensuring food safety; and vocational training has been provided to 1,798 members.

In addition, the Provincial Farmers' Association organized a conference to connect Shan Tuyet tea businesses in Y Ty commune; organized training on earthworm farming techniques for 120 members; and provided 3.75 tons of earthworm breeding stock to 150 households in Lao Cai ward, Bao Yen commune, and Bat Xat commune… At the same time, it strengthened coordination with units, companies, and businesses inside and outside the province to provide support and services for supplying input materials such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and animal feed… to members and farmers. It supplied 672 tons of various fertilizers worth over 5.8 billion VND; nearly 203 tons of seeds worth over 4.3 billion VND; and 157 tons of animal feed worth 5.1 billion VND…

This support has become a crucial driving force, helping tens of thousands of farming households effectively utilize the potential of land, labor, and available local resources to invest in production and business. Many households have boldly borrowed capital, applied science and technology, invested in expanding production models, and transformed crop and livestock structures to suit local conditions and market demands.

Through movements initiated by the Farmers' Association, many effective economic models have emerged. Many households, previously impoverished, have risen to a comfortable standard of living, even becoming wealthy, with a ripple effect in the community. Among them, not a few households earn hundreds of millions to billions of dong annually, creating regular employment for thousands of rural workers. Examples include: the family of Mr. Giàng Văn Dín in Bát Xát commune, with their integrated production and business model, earning hundreds of millions of dong annually and providing employment for 30 workers; and the family of Mr. Nguyễn Đức Thắng in Trịnh Tường commune, with their integrated business model, providing stable employment for 25 workers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Dong, Vice President of the Provincial Farmers' Association, stated: “Farmers' associations at all levels have strongly promoted the spirit of mutual support and assistance. Successful farming households not only focus on developing their own family economies but also actively support disadvantaged households through loans, seedlings, labor assistance, technical guidance, and product distribution… As a result, 264 poor farmer members have been supported to overcome poverty.”
