Khe Tien village in Dong Van commune is the first place in Binh Lieu district, as well as in the entire Quang Ninh province, to implement a model of raising cold-water fish, including Siberian sturgeon.
In 2015, the Dong Bac Agricultural and Fisheries Development Cooperative released 300 juvenile Siberian sturgeon into the cold waters of Khe Tien on a trial basis.
Mr. Doan Dinh Kha, Director of the Cooperative, said: "Khe Tien is located at a high altitude and has many forests, which helps to retain water and keep the water temperature low."
In addition, the terrain of Khe Tien is steep, fragmented, and has valleys, which create strong currents carrying large amounts of oxygen, as well as forming areas of still water.
Above all, Khe Tien is very clean, with a pristine natural environment that seems to have been minimally impacted by human hands. Therefore, I believe that if a sturgeon farming model is implemented here, it will first and foremost benefit from the water resources and climate, which are crucial factors ensuring successful fish farming.
Residents of Khe Tien village, Dong Van commune, Binh Lieu district (Quang Ninh province) are developing a model for raising cold-water Siberian sturgeon.
As expected, the first batch of sturgeon from the Dong Bac Agricultural and Fisheries Development Cooperative adapted well to the Khe Tien stream. Their growth rate was slightly slow, but the quality of the fish after harvest was highly rated.
Building on initial success, the Northeast Agricultural and Fisheries Development Cooperative made fundamental adjustments to the water supply and drainage infrastructure, pond and tank infrastructure, and farming processes in subsequent stages to promote the adaptation and development of sturgeon.
Currently, the Khe Tien sturgeon farming area is designed with a system for directly channeling water from streams to the reservoir; constructing water tanks, breeding tanks, and nursery tanks at gradually lower levels like terraced rice fields; building a synchronized water treatment system at the source and wastewater treatment system; and using netting to reduce the impact of light and temperature...
The current sturgeon farming process in Khe Tien follows the VietGAP standard. This scientifically designed tank system creates a suitable living environment for thousands of sturgeon per year, ensuring high survival rates, growth and development, and nutritional quality.
At the end of the breeding process, Khe Tien sturgeon weigh 2-5kg/fish, selling for 200,000 VND/kg, generating billions of VND in revenue per year.
Following the initiative of the Northeast Agricultural and Fisheries Development Cooperative, many households in Khe Tien have boldly invested capital, land, and labor to participate in sturgeon farming, becoming members or shareholders of the cooperative.
Currently, along with the development pace of Dong Van commune, as well as Binh Lieu district (Quang Ninh province), Khe Tien village is gradually becoming an ideal tourist destination.
Visitors come to Khe Tien to experience the beauty of the natural landscape, the majestic mountains and forests, the cool air, and the fragrant aroma of anise and cinnamon forests.
The people of Khe Tien now know how to renovate their traditional rammed-earth houses to welcome guests. Beautiful homestays have sprung up amidst the mountains and forests, where tourists can learn about the traditional culture of the local people, their sewing and embroidery techniques, and the melodies and sounds of musical instruments echoing through the mountains and forests.
Above all, Khe Tien boasts unique dishes, including delicious and nutritious sturgeon. The Khe Tien sturgeon farm has also become a very attractive tourist destination for visitors to the area.
