In recent times, Hai Lang commune has been striving to develop its economy , with a particular focus on bringing information, techniques, and production knowledge to each household. Among these efforts, the Tien Yen chicken farming model not only creates a sustainable path but also serves as clear evidence of the effectiveness of information poverty reduction, enabling people to access comprehensive and timely information for production.

In Thong Nhat village, Nguyen Van Nam's family is one of the first households to switch to raising Tien Yen chickens commercially, thanks to access to technical information from the commune and the Farmers' Association. He recounted that his family started in 2021 with 500 chicks. “At that time, we knew nothing; the biggest difficulty was the lack of information and experience. I had to proactively research on my phone, join the commune's sharing groups, and learn from long-established farms. Thanks to access to many information channels, I gradually gained practical experience. This Tien Yen chicken breed is healthy, rarely gets sick, and as long as you vaccinate according to the instructions, you can rest assured,” Nam shared.

After four years, thanks to continuous updates on market information, care techniques, and disease prevention schedules in agriculture , his family's poultry farming has expanded many times over. Each year, he raises about 5,000 chickens in a staggered breeding system. He starts with 3,000 in February; two months later, he adds another flock, and at the end of the year, he maintains another flock to ensure a stable supply. "Thanks to raising Tien Yen chickens, my wife and I earn about 20 million VND a month. It's much more profitable than our previous jobs," Mr. Nam said.

His biggest concern is the inconsistent market demand. The selling price fluctuates between 130,000 and 140,000 VND/kg, which is generally quite good, but profits can decrease when market information isn't updated promptly or when feed costs increase. He hopes the local authorities will continue to support connecting farmers with markets so they can confidently expand their operations. His family has planned to open one or two new farms to increase production and meet the market demand in the commune and surrounding areas.

Not only Mr. Nam's household, but the movement to raise Tien Yen chickens commercially in Hai Lang district has developed strongly thanks to an increasingly完善 communication, training, and technical consulting system. In the socio-economic development report for October 2025, the People's Committee of the commune noted that the total poultry flock reached approximately 150,000 birds, developing stably, with no dangerous disease outbreaks. The second round of vaccinations in 2025 was widely announced through loudspeakers, community Zalo groups, and documents sent to each village, helping people to fully understand the vaccination schedule and proactively prevent diseases according to the season.

Mr. Luc Van Phuc, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hai Lang commune, said that the Association has clearly identified Tien Yen chicken farming as a key industry, suitable to local conditions and providing practical income for the people. For this industry to develop, the most important thing is to help people access full knowledge, market data, and farming techniques. Based on the commune Party Committee's resolution on livestock development, the Farmers' Association has intensified propaganda, opened technical training classes, disseminated vaccination procedures, and provided guidance on disinfection and environmental treatment. This information is conveyed through various forms: village meetings, commune loudspeakers, social media groups, handouts, etc., to reach every household.

“We coordinate with the policy bank to help people access loans, and also to help them understand the procedures, policies, and benefits through communication sessions. At the same time, we link with businesses to sell products, preventing traders from manipulating prices. Every year, the commune organizes training courses on Tien Yen chicken farming techniques, with experts providing direct guidance, helping people grasp the standard process,” Mr. Phuc said.

Thanks to access to comprehensive information, many households that previously relied solely on precarious, seasonal income from fishing have boldly switched to raising Tien Yen chickens and achieved significant results. Some households have even risen to become outstanding producers at the commune and district levels, receiving awards for their effective application of technical knowledge and market information.

Hai Lang is currently in the stage of accelerating economic development, the total production value of the commune in the first 10 months of the year is estimated at over 890 billion VND, of which agriculture, forestry and fishery account for a large proportion. The stability of the total poultry herd and effective farming models have contributed significantly to the overall results.

Livestock farming not only brings stable income but also creates jobs on the spot, contributing to the goal of sustainable poverty reduction. By 2025, the commune will have only 18 near-poor households, and it is expected that many households will escape near-poverty ahead of schedule.

The local government's livestock support system is implemented comprehensively, from providing disinfectants and vaccinations to technical guidance, capital support, and market connections. This is a crucial foundation that helps livestock farmers feel secure in making long-term investments. With its robust health, adaptability, delicious meat, and market popularity, Tien Yen chicken is becoming a new economic symbol for the people of Hai Lang.

In its future development plan, Hai Lang district has identified the need to continue expanding poultry farming in a biosafety-oriented manner, linked with brand building and the development of OCOP products. With the existing foundation and the determination of the people, the Tien Yen chicken farming model promises to continue being a "spearhead" helping the commune increase income and move closer to the goal of sustainable rural economic development.
