On the morning of October 24th, at the 10th session of the 15th National Assembly, the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Mr. Do Thanh Binh, Permanent Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior , as Minister of the Interior for the 2021-2026 term was approved.
Mr. Do Thanh Binh was born on March 15, 1967, in Ca Mau province. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Theory and a Master's degree in Economics, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Political Economy. He is a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, 8th term, and a delegate to the National Assembly, 15th term.
Mr. Do Thanh Binh rose through the ranks, holding numerous positions in Kien Giang (formerly) such as: Secretary of the District Youth Union, Chairman of the District People's Committee, Secretary of the Vinh Thuan District Party Committee; Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Department, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.
In January 2025, Mr. Do Thanh Binh was transferred and appointed by the Politburo to the position of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
After Can Tho City merged with Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces, Mr. Do Thanh Binh was appointed by the Politburo and the Secretariat to the position of Secretary of the (new) Can Tho City Party Committee.
On September 28, 2025, in Decision No. 2159/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister accepted and appointed Mr. Do Thanh Binh, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, to the position of Permanent Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
