Speaking at the ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong shared: This year's National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control with the theme "From response to early action", reminds us that: Every citizen, every community must always be vigilant, proactively respond to natural disasters, every early action in responding to natural disasters will be extremely important to minimize damage.

Authorities at all levels, especially at the grassroots level, must always be ready to act according to the "4 on-the-spot" motto to protect life and property, contributing to reducing damage caused by natural disasters.

Organizations and units donated equipment and money to build livestock evacuation camps worth 1.2 billion VND to localities in Quang Tri.

Mr. Ha Sy Dong emphasized that after the launching ceremony, departments, branches, localities, mass organizations, schools, armed forces, etc. need to continue to focus on implementing practical activities in response to the National Week, attracting the widespread participation of agencies, organizations and all people.

Along with that, focus on propaganda work, raising awareness and skills of the community; proactively develop, review, adjust and effectively implement plans for natural disaster prevention and control in each stage and annually; prepare fully and fully the forces, materials and backup means according to the developed plans and schemes.

At the same time, prioritize investment, improve capacity and resilience of infrastructure; promptly repair, consolidate and upgrade the system of dykes, river embankments, sea embankments, dams, community houses, etc. to meet the requirements of natural disaster prevention and control; promote cooperation, information sharing, and seek support and assistance from international organizations, businesses and philanthropists for natural disaster prevention and control.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee emphasized: "With the attention and direction of the Party and the State, the will, efforts and companionship of the entire community, along with the support of strategic partners and international organizations. I hope and believe that Quang Tri province will continue to achieve more achievements in disaster prevention and control, join hands to build a truly safe community against natural disasters and support the socio-economic development of the province in a sustainable direction."

At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director of the Department of International Cooperation ( Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ) shared: This year, the theme of the National Week was chosen as "From response to early action". Early action is the activities in the prevention and response phase to natural disasters that agencies in the field of natural disaster prevention and control have been implementing.

In disaster risk management, early action involves reducing the impact of disasters on vulnerable groups and enhancing disaster preparedness and response through access to financial resources for early action. Globally, more than 70 countries have implemented early action programs based on warnings.

Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan expressed: 2023 is also an important year for our country's disaster prevention and control sector when Vietnam assumes the role of Chair in ASEAN cooperation on disaster management.

Therefore, choosing the theme “From response to early action” also aims to demonstrate Vietnam’s leading role and responsibility in promoting ASEAN cooperation in the field of disaster management - an important content in the socio-cultural cooperation pillar of ASEAN.

On this occasion, representatives of organizations and units donated equipment and money to build livestock evacuation camps worth 1.2 billion VND. Of which, representatives of the project "Strengthening flood resilience for communities" from Plan International Vietnam donated early warning equipment, including: generators, aluminum ladders, boats and engines, chainsaws, and portable speakers for traditional work with a total value of more than 720 million VND to 6 project communities in 6 communes to support the enhancement of disaster prevention capacity.

To improve the people's practical response capacity, the Quang Tri Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, together with the forces of Trieu Do commune and the people, organized a drill on natural disaster prevention and search and rescue with many contents, such as: strengthening houses, evacuating people and moving livestock, rescuing on the river and first aid.
