On the morning of September 27, in Hanoi , the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly held a launching ceremony for the "Month of Action for the Vietnamese Elderly in 2025" and deployed the humanitarian program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" for the period 2025-2028.
Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam 2025 with the message "Elderly people in the new era" aims to emphasize the mission of the elderly to continue contributing to bringing the nation into an era of sustainable development, wealth, prosperity and happiness.
Attending the launching ceremony were Comrade Do Van Chien, Member of the Political Bureau, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Comrade Le Thanh Long, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Committee on the Elderly of Vietnam, along with representatives from ministries, sectors and exemplary elderly people.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly Nguyen Thanh Binh said: Over the years, the Party and State have always promoted the position, the role of the elderly In political and social life, it fosters trust and enthusiasm among officials, members, and elderly people nationwide.
Policies and guidelines for the elderly have been mentioned and specified in many relevant legal documents, creating a fairly comprehensive policy framework for the elderly in Vietnam.
The State has enacted many social welfare policies for the elderly with a new approach; placing the elderly in the position of an important resource contributing to socio-economic development, building a clean and strong Party and political system, and preserving and promoting traditional cultural values.
At the launching ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien highly appreciated the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly for coordinating and organizing the launching ceremony of the Action Month and the humanitarian program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" in 2025.
Deeply understanding the Party's viewpoints and policies, and the profound guidance of General Secretary To Lam: "The elderly are a precious asset, the towering trees of the nation; caring for and promoting the role of the elderly is the responsibility of the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire army. We must not only care for the elderly to live happily, healthily, and contentedly, but also create conditions for them to continue contributing ideas and passing on their passion to the younger generation, contributing to building a prosperous, beautiful, humane, and modern society."
Comrade Do Van Chien also requested that Party committees, governments at all levels, ministries, departments, and organizations work together to effectively implement several contents, focusing on: Proactively reviewing and evaluating the results of implementing policies and laws on the elderly, such as Decision No. 383/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the National Strategy on the Elderly until 2025, with a vision to 2045; Decision No. 379/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the Project "The elderly participate in promoting digital transformation, green transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation".
Through that, it is recommended to amend and supplement the 2009 Law on the Elderly and propose additional appropriate mechanisms and policies to care for and protect the elderly to have a better material and spiritual life.
Pay attention and create conditions for the Elderly Association to arrange and strengthen the organization. According to the new model, closely linked with residential areas, creating all favorable conditions for the elderly to operate, doing better work in caring for, protecting and promoting the elderly.
At the same time, Comrade Do Van Chien also called on individuals both domestically and internationally to join hands and contribute resources to support the humanitarian program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" and the cause of protecting, caring for, and promoting the role of the elderly even better. He also called for organizing practical activities to help elderly people living in poor and disadvantaged households in border areas, islands, ethnic minority regions, and mountainous areas...
According to a report by the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, in implementing Decision No. 1579/QD-TTg dated October 13, 2020, of the Prime Minister approving the Program for Healthcare of the Elderly until 2030, the humanitarian program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly" has become a regular task of the association at all levels.
Thanks to the attention of Party committees, government agencies, and the Fatherland Front Committees at all levels, many agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals both domestically and internationally have actively participated in supporting the program, achieving positive results. 3,618,930 elderly people received eye examinations and consultations; 541,571 received treatment for eye diseases and cataract surgery; and 258,000 received corrective glasses to improve their vision.
The total amount spent on free eye examinations and treatment for the elderly was over 513 billion VND. This is a noble gesture, deeply humane, and a practical action that contributes to improving the effectiveness of elderly care and implementing the social security policies of the Party and the State.
The program was honored with the Second Prize in the category of Supporting Self-Reliance; the first "Initiative Award for a Healthy Aging Asia" - 2020 by the Japan Foundation for Asian Innovation for International Exchange.
