(CLO) Traffic at Paris Gare du Nord, one of the world's busiest transit hubs, was disrupted Friday morning after an unexploded World War II bomb was discovered on the tracks.
Police immediately cordoned off the area and began bomb disposal operations. The French national railway company (SNCF) said the explosive device was found "between the tracks" the previous night during track maintenance in the Saint Denis suburb, about 2.5 km north of the station in Paris.

At the request of the police, all traffic to and from Gare du Nord, including local metro lines, commuter trains and the international Eurostar service, was suspended until mid-morning.
The Eurostar website announced that at least four trains departing from Gare du Nord on Friday morning had been cancelled, and advised passengers to reschedule. SNCF also urged travelers to postpone their trips to avoid congestion caused by the incident.
Gare du Nord is one of the busiest train stations in Europe, serving around 700,000 passengers daily and connecting to destinations in northern France, London, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Although unexploded bombs from previous wars are often found throughout France, discovering them in such a densely populated area is rare.
French police have yet to issue an official comment on the situation. Meanwhile, bomb disposal teams are working urgently to ensure safety and restore traffic in the area as quickly as possible.
