Ms. MT (residing in District 4) stated that she arrived at the location at 10 PM on June 16th. When she arrived, approximately 30 other parents were already waiting. Subsequently, the number of parents continued to increase.
Ms. T said that her husband is a civil servant and is eligible for priority admission to the school, but she was still worried that the application forms would sell out quickly, so she also rushed to queue up to buy them to be sure.
Similarly, some other parents present this morning said that they arrived at 5 AM on June 17th, thinking that the application forms would start being distributed at 2 PM, but when they arrived, there were already many parents waiting. Despite this, all parents lined up and waited their turn without causing any disturbance.
Representatives from Saigon Practice Primary School stated that due to limited facilities and teachers, the school has not yet been able to increase its enrollment capacity despite high parental demand. The school also wants to avoid long queues. Furthermore, for first grade enrollment, the school only uses a first-choice application system based on priority groups, unlike sixth grade which uses academic results, foreign language proficiency, or aptitude tests for admission.
Saigon Practice Primary School is recruiting 150 students for the 2024-2025 school year, a decrease of 25 students compared to the previous year.
The priority for admission is as follows: children whose father or mother is a civil servant or employee currently working at Saigon University; next are children of individuals or organizations that have collaborated with or contributed significantly to the development of the university; children whose father or mother is a public sector official or employee; and preschool children falling under the remaining categories. The admission results will be announced on July 1st.
This is the only school in Ho Chi Minh City where parents annually line up to buy application forms for their children to enroll in first grade.
