Vietnam - Laos relations are vital to the revolutionary cause of the two countries.

On the afternoon of October 8th, in Vientiane, Laos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with the General Secretary and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warmly congratulated Laos on successfully organizing important ASEAN conferences in its capacity as ASEAN Chair in 2024. He also conveyed the wishes of General Secretary and President To Lam and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man , hoping that Laos, with its thorough and professional preparation and experience gained from its roles as ASEAN Chair in 2004 and 2016, will successfully organize the ASEAN Summit and the 45th AIPA Summit, thereby making practical contributions to the stable, sustainable development and growth of the region, while enhancing Laos' role and position in the international arena.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam always attach great importance and give the highest priority to the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, considering it an invaluable asset, an objective requirement, a top priority, the number one choice, and a vital factor for the revolutionary cause of both countries, which must be preserved for future generations. He affirmed that he will direct Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and localities to closely coordinate with their Lao counterparts to effectively implement high-level agreements between the two countries, including the Vietnam-Laos Joint Statement issued during the State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith from September 10-13, 2024.

General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for leading the high-level Vietnamese delegation to attend the ASEAN Summit in Laos. The General Secretary and President of Laos expressed his gratitude to General Secretary and President To Lam and other high-ranking Vietnamese leaders for the warm and fraternal welcome extended to the high-level Lao delegation during their recent state visit.

The General Secretary and President of Laos expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's valuable assistance, both material and spiritual, in the spirit of "helping those in greater need," in helping Laos quickly overcome the consequences of the floods; he highly appreciated Vietnam's active support for Laos during its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024, affirming that Vietnam's contribution was crucial to Laos' success as ASEAN Chair.

General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed that in the coming period, both sides need to focus on effectively implementing the agreements and cooperation agreements between the two countries, especially the results of the recent meeting between the Politburo of Vietnam and Laos in Hanoi; further strengthen the connectivity between the two economies of Vietnam and Laos and between the three economies of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia; continue to regularly exchange experiences and information, coordinate closely, and support each other in international and regional forums, especially in ASEAN, the United Nations, and sub-regional mechanisms.

Against the backdrop of complex global and regional developments, both sides affirmed their commitment to further nurturing the Vietnam-Laos relationship, ensuring it remains "evergreen and enduring," and to developing economic cooperation in a substantive and effective manner, commensurate with the political relationship, in order to better meet the practical interests of each country and align with the development needs of the new era.
