Determined to promote the strengths of the intellectual team

(NLDO) - The 2020-2025 term is full of hardships and challenges. But through that, the good qualities of the people of Ho Chi Minh City are more clearly revealed.

On the morning of December 22, the City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City organized a conference to meet intellectuals in 2024. Attending the conference were Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen; Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai.

The more difficult it is, the more clearly the qualities of Ho Chi Minh City people are revealed.

Speaking at the conference, Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen said the locality has basically completed the targets and tasks for 2024 in most areas. In particular, the city has achieved many important achievements as a premise for a new development stage.

According to the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, each journey has its own advantages and difficulties, but this journey has had unprecedented difficulties. For example, the city has had to cope with the fierce and arduous COVID-19 pandemic; the external situation is evolving rapidly, complicatedly, unpredictably, and many things are beyond forecast.

Meanwhile, internally, Ho Chi Minh City has many issues that need to be further addressed, many officials from the previous term have shortcomings, errors, and violations that need to be dealt with. Ho Chi Minh City still has many targets that have not been achieved at a high level, many things that it wants to do but has not been able to do. Specifically, the city's economic growth has not been commensurate with its potential, many issues need innovation, and there has not been a breakthrough in infrastructure construction and human resource development.

However, thanks to solidarity, unity of will and action, joint efforts, leadership and direction of the Central Government and the support of the people nationwide, especially the perseverance of the local people, Ho Chi Minh City has overcome those difficulties.

The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed that the entire political system will be determined to complete the goals in the remaining term, including striving for double-digit growth in 2025, making up for the negative growth during the pandemic.

In 2025, the city must continue to set breakthrough targets, not only for the immediate future but also for the medium and long term. The city will carry out many tasks, strategies and projects in the coming year.

Promoting the intellectual team

The Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee said that over the years, the relationship between the city’s leaders and the intellectuals has become increasingly close. The city’s intellectuals have not only grown in quantity but also in quality, and their age is constantly getting younger.

"The city always has 3 groups of intellectuals, likened to 3 pillars that always stick close, ready to share and support the locality" - Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee shared.

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen and Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai presented flowers to honor intellectual delegates at the conference.

The first group is young intellectuals managed by the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies; the group of elderly intellectuals is led by the Oriental Institute for Development Studies; and the group of Vietnamese intellectuals abroad is always ready to gather when necessary.

According to the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, the city has recently institutionalized many mechanisms and policies to attract and reward intellectuals, but there are still many limitations. Among them, legal documents are not yet consistent, and the issued policies have not created attraction for experts and scientists.

"We learn and follow previous generations in building and developing the intellectual team and the mindset of valuing talents in the development process. The city needs to make more efforts and commit to promoting the strengths of the intellectual team to contribute to the city's development process" - Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed.

During the 3-hour conference, Ho Chi Minh City leaders directly listened to opinions, suggestions and proposals from intellectual delegates in the city on economic - cultural - social fields, to strive to complete the goals and tasks of 2025, term 2020-2025 and prepare to enter a new era.

In response to the enthusiastic opinions of intellectual delegates, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen requested that city authorities absorb the contents related to the city; and collect all macro-level contents in a comprehensive manner to report to the Central Government.
