With a series of strong events taking to the field and a high chance of reaching the finals, December 11-12 promises to be one of the most explosive days for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 33rd SEA Games.
Winning 4 gold medals and finishing fourth in the overall medal standings on the first day of competition is a very encouraging achievement, and the Vietnamese sports delegation is expected to have impressive performances and continue to win a "shower of gold medals".
Gymnastics and 4 finals
Nguyen Van Khanh Phong, the reigning SEA Games 32 champion, a silver medalist at ASIAD 19, and a silver medalist at the 2024 World Cup, will defend his number one title in the men's rings event. Vietnamese gymnastics will also compete in three finals against Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien, and Tran Doan Quynh Nam.

Athletics kickstarts the dream of gold.
Ngan Ngoc Nghia, Ha Thi Thu, and Hoang Du Y will compete in the men's and women's sprint events, while in the men's 1,500m race, SEA Games 31 champion Luong Duc Phuoc and Sam Van Doi will compete.

Bui Thi Ngan and Nguyen Khanh Linh will compete in the women's 1,500m race; Le Thi Cam Dung will compete in the women's discus throw, and she is fully capable of directly competing for the gold medal with strong opponents, including host country Thailand.

Vietnamese swimmers entered competition in several important events including the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, and 4x200m relay with Pham Thanh Bao, Trinh Truong Vinh, Nguyen Kha Nhi, Bui Thi Ngan, Vo Thi My Tien, Nguyen Ngoc Tuyet Han…

Jujitsu holds much promise.
In the men's -69kg Ne-waza category, Dang Dinh Tung and Pham Tri Dung have previously defeated top regional competitors and have a very high chance of winning the gold medal, while Nguyen Tien Trien and Pham Le Hoang Linh also have hope in the men's -85kg category.
In the women's events, Pham Thi Thu Ha, the 2024 Asian runner-up, has an advantage in the -48kg category, while Tran Hong An is competing for the gold medal in the -57kg category against her rivals. Additionally, the Duo Show performances by Tran Huu Tuan/Nguyen Thanh Tra and Phung Thi Hong Ngoc/Nguyen Ngoc Bich promise to bring some exciting moments.
Vietnam's hopes of winning gold medals also lie in sports such as Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Kayak and Canoe racing, and mountain biking.
