At the Tech4Good Asia- Pacific regional awards ceremony organized by Huawei in Shenzhen, China, the Vietnamese team, with their SkyNet project – supporting the search for people in distress during floods – excellently won first prize and advanced to the global finals in 2025.
With these well-deserved achievements, participants will also receive opportunities for startup funding, a trip to China, and one-on-one discussions with Huawei leaders.
The Vietnamese team consists of 6 students from 4 leading universities in Vietnam: Mai Thi Phuong, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang and Dinh Hoang Anh (Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology); Pham Quynh Trang (VinUni University); Cao Sy Duong ( Hanoi University of Science and Technology) and Tran Dang Nam (Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport).
The SkyNet project is developed based on the application of drones, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and AI technology to support faster and smarter search and rescue operations in flooded areas. The project is developed with the criteria of: capturing high-resolution images, providing stable mobile data transmission, and reporting data in real time. The development costs of SkyNet are also optimized to deliver economic benefits and diverse application scenarios when commercialized.
Mr. Macky Zhang, General Director of Huawei Vietnam, shared: “We are very proud that Vietnam, as a ‘seed,’ has won first place, demonstrating individual capabilities through the impressive SkyNet project and inspiring other young talents to actively translate creative ideas into national practice. The exciting global finals stage awaits you to showcase and shine even brighter.”
