The SIU Piano Competition 2024 is divided into two groups: a professional group and a non-professional group, open to all contestants of all nationalities and ages. Dr. Liao Hsin-Chiao, a member of the Schubert in a Mug (SiaM) classical music project and a member of the non-professional group judging panel, stated that the SIU Piano Competition 2024 is the first year to expand to the non-professional group, aiming to provide opportunities for both professional and non-professional contestants so that young people can all have equal chances.
With nearly 400 contestants registering from many countries around the world , the competition went through three rounds: preliminary, semi-final, and final, lasting from June to July 31.
Launched in March 2024, the SIU Piano Competition 2024 has received significant attention from the community of classical music enthusiasts in general and piano enthusiasts in particular. It has especially attracted a large number of contestants from many reputable professional art training institutions domestically and internationally, such as Singapore, Japan, Russia, the United States, India, Nigeria, etc., who share a passion for classical music.
The competition's judging panel comprises Vietnamese and international lecturers and pianists from the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the World Piano Teachers Association (WPTA) in Malaysia, and advisory board members from the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music and the Ho Chi Minh City Symphony Orchestra and Opera House.
Meritorious Artist Hoang Ngoc Long, Acting Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, assessed that the SIU Piano Competition in particular, as well as music competitions in general, have had a significant impact on the development of the country's arts. Through the competition, young talents have a healthy platform for cultural and artistic activities. The competition discovers talents, thereby guiding them to develop their talents and careers.
The SIU Piano Competition Season 2 Gala & Awards Ceremony honored outstanding talents and presented 20 awards with a total value of up to 1,170,000,000 VND.
The SIU Piano Competition is held every two years.
