According to Syria's state news agency SANA , on the evening of November 4, Israel attacked "several civilian sites south of Damascus, causing heavy damage to infrastructure."
The Syrian Foreign Ministry immediately condemned Israel's attacks on civilian areas and called on UN member states to act quickly to stop Israel and hold it accountable.
Israeli warplanes carried out three airstrikes in the Sayyidah Zaynab area, 10 km south of Damascus.
The first airstrike hit the Kaou Sudan intersection near the town of Sayyidah Zaynab, a refuge for many refugees fleeing Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
The second airstrike took place near a hotel southeast of Sayyidah Zaynab, while the third attack targeted farms in the area.
Two members of Lebanon's Hezbollah movement were killed and five others seriously injured in Israeli airstrikes on a farm in the area, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The Israeli Air Force announced on November 5 that it had struck “targets” in Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in the “Syrian region,” saying in a social media post: “A branch of Hezbollah intelligence operating in Syria, including the information gathering and evaluation system.”
The town of Sayyidah Zaynab is considered a Hezbollah base and has been the target of previous Israeli air strikes.
According to sources, the area remains on Israel's top target list due to the presence of many Hezbollah members who fled to Syria.
Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Syria over the years and has stepped up attacks since October 7, 2023, when fighting broke out in the Gaza Strip.
