Sophia Phuong Anh continues to assert her prowess in the Vietnamese pickleball scene with three titles at the VPO Hanoi tournament held last weekend. This tournament, with over 600 participants from across the country, is one of the largest pickleball competitions in Vietnam.
In the women's doubles Open, Sophia Phuong Anh partnered with American player Tia. The pair impressively defeated two players currently competing in Australia's professional tennis leagues.
Seventeen-year-old athlete Sophia Phuong Anh won her first championship of 2025 at the VPO Hanoi tournament.
"This is my first gold medal to celebrate my 17th birthday. The final match against two very strong opponents from South Korea and the Philippines was really difficult, especially since they were both very skilled."
"In that match, my teammate Tia and I played until exactly 12 midnight in harsh weather conditions of around 9-10 degrees Celsius, but we both tried our best and coordinated very well to break through and win. That made me extremely emotional and proud," Sophia Phuong Anh shared.
Besides winning the women's doubles title, Sophia Phuong Anh also secured third place in the mixed doubles and women's singles events, despite facing opponents who were significantly stronger in both age and experience. These impressive achievements once again demonstrate the talent and dedication of this female athlete who has just turned 17.
In 2025, Sophia Phuong Anh aims to participate in more international tournaments both domestically and abroad, interspersed with training trips to the US and Australia to enhance her competitive experience and compete against top world-class players with DUPR 5.0+ rankings.
