On August 16th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training held a conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and outline key directions and tasks for the 2024-2025 school year.
In the 2023-2024 school year, the city's education sector achieved many outstanding results. Specifically, the Ho Chi Minh City team of outstanding students ranked second in the National Excellent Student Competition, a jump of 10 places compared to the 2022-2023 school year's results.
Notably, during the past school year, two students from Le Hong Phong Specialized High School won second prize in the international science and engineering competition in the United States. This marks the first time students from the city have won the top prize in 12 years of participating in this international competition.

In the recent 2024 High School Graduation Examination, Ho Chi Minh City continued to lead the country in average English scores. This marks the eighth consecutive year that the city has topped the English exam scores in the national high school graduation examination.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong highly appreciated the achievements of Ho Chi Minh City's education sector in the past year.
At the same time, it was emphasized that, with determination and perseverance over 10 years of implementing Project 5695 "Teaching and learning Mathematics, Science and English integrated with the English and Vietnamese curricula" in public schools in Ho Chi Minh City, the city's advantages have been effectively utilized.
This is a noteworthy achievement, demonstrating the effectiveness of many models, projects, and programs in the city's education sector. Through this, we hope that Ho Chi Minh City will be the first locality to have schools using English as a second language, approaching world-class English proficiency.
According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, Ho Chi Minh City has been ahead for 10 years now, with its English 5695 project. For the new school year, the city's Department of Education and Training needs to summarize the project and will propose that the Department of Secondary Education (Ministry of Education and Training) coordinate and invite other provinces and cities to participate.
The goal of learning is to gradually make English a second language. What criteria are needed, how many subjects should be studied, and for how long?
Also at the conference, the Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Nguyen Thi Le, highly appreciated the efforts, steadfastness, and bold innovation of the education and training sector.
