At the meeting between Minister Nguyen Kim Son and teachers nationwide on August 15th, the issue of integrated teaching in the new curriculum received many shared opinions from teachers.
Ms. Hoang Hai Van, representing teachers from Khanh Hoa province, shared: "The two years of implementing the 2018 General Education Program at the lower secondary level have shown that this provides an opportunity for teachers to explore and develop modern teaching methods and techniques..."

However, the implementation of the new program also faces certain difficulties. The integration of natural and social sciences is still inadequate, as teachers are trained to teach each subject separately; and the solutions for organizing training for teachers teaching integrated subjects have not been truly effective.
Ms. Hoang Hai Van expressed her wish that the Minister would find solutions to improve the quality of training for teachers teaching integrated subjects.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thieu Hoa, a teacher from Nghe An province, also stated that the requirement to teach integrated Natural Sciences, History, and Geography necessitates that teachers trained in single subjects must participate in training courses to teach these subjects effectively.
The training programs issued under Circulars No. 2454 and 2455 of the Ministry of Education and Training have basically enabled teachers to teach integrated subjects. However, to help teachers become more confident and teach more effectively, the Ministry of Education and Training needs to have policies, directives, and guidelines to continue providing solutions to help teachers become more proficient, confident, and effective in their teaching.
In addition, the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program and new textbooks for high school has progressed up to grade 11 according to the planned schedule. However, both teachers and students are still unclear about the methods for the high school graduation exam and university entrance exams.
Ms. Hoa expressed her hope that the Ministry of Education and Training would soon issue guidelines and directions regarding the 2025 high school graduation exam and university entrance exams so that teachers could be informed.
In a discussion with teachers about the journey of educational reform, Minister Nguyen Kim Son shared his understanding of the difficulties that teachers and educational institutions are facing in implementing the 2018 General Education Program, including integrated teaching at the lower secondary level.
The Minister affirmed that this is a new feature in the 2018 General Education Program. When designing the program, we aimed to develop comprehensive competencies for students. However, during the implementation process, localities, educational institutions, and teachers are facing certain difficulties.
The Minister shared: In the coming time, the Ministry will consider adjusting integrated teaching at the lower secondary level. However, how to make these adjustments without causing disruption or shock is something that needs careful consideration. The adjustments should aim for improvement, greater convenience, and alignment with the requirements of educational reform.
Regarding the plan for organizing the 2025 high school graduation exam, the Minister informed that the exam plan is expected to be announced in the fourth quarter of 2023.
