In the last six months of 2023, Vietnamese sports focused on the tasks at the 19th Asian Games and the qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
On the afternoon of June 20th, the General Department of Physical Education and Sports (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ) held a press conference to commemorate the 98th anniversary of Vietnam's Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 / June 21, 2023).

At the meeting, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Physical Education and Sports, Le Thi Hoang Yen, reported on the results of the tasks performed in the first six months of 2023. Regarding high-performance sports, Vietnamese sports teams performed excellently, winning 751 international medals; exceeding the target and ranking first overall at the 32nd SEA Games.
Regarding mass sports, the entire sector has actively directed the implementation of the "National Movement for Physical Training Following the Example of the Great President Ho Chi Minh"; the Olympic Run for Public Health and the month of physical education and sports activities; and coordinated with localities to organize 13 national-level mass sports competitions and 1 international sports competition in Vietnam...

Regarding key tasks for the last six months of 2023, Vietnamese sports are focusing on preparing athletes to participate in the 2022 Asian Games (ASIAD 19) in China, the World Beach Games in Indonesia, and the 6th Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand... In addition, key athletes in the national teams are also actively training and competing in tournaments that qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Effective July 1st, the General Department of Physical Education and Sports officially changed its name to the Department of Physical Education and Sports, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
