In addition to displaying specialties until September 2nd, Tien Giang - the fruit capital of the West - invites businesses in Ho Chi Minh City to increase links in consuming agricultural products.
From August 29 to September 2, a series of specialties from fruits to foods such as durian, dragon fruit, shrimp paste, and shrimp crackers appeared at the "Week of introducing OCOP products and specialties of Tien Giang" in Ho Chi Minh City.
Not only a short-term introduction, at the trade promotion conference on August 29, the Department of Industry and Trade of Tien Giang province signed a series of cooperation memorandums with Ho Chi Minh City and two retailers Co.opmart and Central Retails.
These efforts aim to expand the production-consumption chain for agricultural products, especially OCOP products (products under the One Commune One Product Program) in the "fruit capital" of the Mekong Delta.

Tien Giang is one of the provinces with the largest fruit growing area in the country, with more than 80,000 hectares and an annual output of over 1.8 million tons of various fruits. Among them, there are some specialty fruits such as: Hoa Loc mango, grapefruit, Cai Lay durian, Vinh Kim milk fruit, Tan Phuoc pineapple, Cho Gao dragon fruit.
Mr. Tran Van Dung, Vice Chairman of Tien Giang People's Committee, said that the province has established many areas for producing specialty fruits and specialized vegetables according to standards, meeting domestic consumption and export needs. The province currently has an aquaculture area of over 15,000 hectares, with an annual output of over 360,000 tons.
According to Mr. Dung, agricultural and aquatic products from this region have established a brand and quality presence in both domestic and international markets. However, for many years, the consumption of Tien Giang's agricultural products has faced difficulties due to limited product promotion.
Therefore, the province hopes that businesses, cooperatives and units producing OCOP products and agricultural products of the province will have the opportunity to access the system of supermarkets, trade centers, convenience store chains, other distribution channels in provinces and cities, especially Ho Chi Minh City and international partners.
In the first half of this year, Tien Giang's GRDP grew by 3.03% over the same period in 2022. In the production and consumption of agricultural and aquatic products, the province prioritizes the development of cooperatives and small and medium-sized enterprises, expecting at least 40% of OCOP entities to be cooperatives, and 30% of entities to be small and medium-sized enterprises.
