Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh spoke at a meeting with female heroes of the People's Armed Forces, female heroes of labor, and female generals; attended the 40th anniversary of the Kovalevskaia Award (1985-2025) and the 2024 award ceremony on the morning of March 8, at the Government headquarters.
The event was held on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of International Women's Day March 8; the 1,985th anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung Uprising, towards the 50th anniversary of National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
Also attending were President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan, former Vice President, President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education , President of the Vietnam Kovalevskaia Award Committee;
With 138 delegates of female Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, female Heroes of Labor; female generals; representatives of individuals and groups of female scientists who have won the Kovalevskaia Award from 1985 to present.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presented the 2024 Kovalevskaia Prize to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Minh Tan (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) and Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi My Dung (Deputy Director of the Institute of Nanotechnology, Ho Chi Minh City National University).

The history of the Vietnamese people is associated with the shining marks of women.
Speaking at the ceremony, on the occasion of March 8, on behalf of General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent his warmest greetings, sincere greetings and best wishes to the female heroes of the Armed Forces, female heroes of Labor, female generals, female scientists, female leaders and managers attending today's meeting and all Vietnamese women . Praising and congratulating the outstanding and remarkable achievements of the two female scientists who won the Kovalevskaia Award, the Prime Minister emphasized that these are living examples, demonstrating the intelligence, creativity, and persistent and tireless efforts in studying and researching of Vietnamese female intellectuals and scientists in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, contributing to enhancing the prestige and position of our country in the international arena, including in the field of science.
The Prime Minister commended and highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnam Women's Union at all levels for its many innovations and creativity in launching and organizing emulation movements, and many practical activities to encourage, support and assist women to rise up, escape poverty, get rich and develop in all aspects.

In the field of science and technology, the female intellectual force is growing stronger and stronger, many of them have achieved great success both at home and abroad, and have been recognized by the international community.
The Prime Minister repeated President Ho Chi Minh's words to once again affirm the great role of Vietnamese women in the country: "The Vietnamese people are a heroic people, Vietnamese women are heroic women."
The Prime Minister cited the Global Gender Gap Report 2024 published by the World Economic Forum (WEF) stating that Vietnam's gender equality ranking in 2024 ranked 72/146 countries, up 11 places compared to 2022.

The Party and State always pay special attention to the development of women.
The Prime Minister affirmed that our Party and State always pay special attention to the development of women and women's work, with many mechanisms, policies and solutions to create favorable conditions, care for, protect rights, enhance the role and contributions of women and promote gender equality in all aspects of life and society.
As a result, Vietnam is one of the earliest countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goals on gender equality and women's empowerment.
The Prime Minister stated that 2025 is of special significance, it is necessary to promote women's movements, promote the good qualities of women through the ages, create conditions for women to enjoy these achievements, ensure legitimate rights and interests such as gender equality, progress, fairness, and inclusive development.

The Prime Minister suggested that the Vietnam Women's Union continue to further promote its representative role of women of all walks of life in advising on support policies and creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese women in general and female scientists in particular.
Finally, the Prime Minister expressed his hope and belief that Vietnamese women today will continue to uphold and promote the traditions of the Trung Sisters and Trieu Thi Mai, and combine them with new-age values, responsibility for themselves, their families and society, constantly innovate and create, contributing to building a strong and prosperous Vietnam.

According to the Vietnam Women's Union, over the past 40 years of operation (from 1985 to 2025), 22 collectives and 57 individuals have received the Kovalevskaia Award with many outstanding achievements, contributing many initiatives of high scientific and practical value.
The first female scientist to receive the award in 1985 was Meritorious Teacher Bui Thi Ty - who received the award while working at Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted - Ha Tay (now Hanoi city).
There were two people who were simultaneously awarded the title of Hero of Labor: People's Physician Huynh Thi Phuong Lien (Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Ministry of Health, won the Kovalevskaia Award in 1999), and Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Tram (also known as Ms. Tram Lua, won the Kovalevskaia Award for individuals in 2000).
The youngest female scientists to ever receive the award are Prof. Dr. Le Thi Thanh Nhan, currently head of the Department of Ethnic Education, Ministry of Education and Training, and Prof. Dr. Vu Thi Thu Ha, deputy director of the Vietnam Institute of Industrial Chemistry, director of the National Key Laboratory for Petrochemical Technology, who won the award in 2011 when they were both 41 years old.
