Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets with Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Party, Government and people of Vietnam consistently support Cuba, requesting the US to end the embargo and remove Cuba from the list of countries believed to sponsor terrorism.

According to the VNA special correspondent, within the framework of attending the BRICS Expanded Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the afternoon of July 6th local time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with the First Secretary and President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz Canel.

In an atmosphere of warm friendship, the Prime Minister respectfully conveyed the cordial greetings of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man , and himself to General Raul Castro, Mr. Miguel Diaz Canel, and other high-ranking Cuban leaders.

The Prime Minister also conveyed the invitation from the high-ranking leaders of Vietnam to Mr. Miguel Diaz Canel, First Secretary and President of Cuba, to visit and attend the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam is always paying close attention to directing Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and businesses to actively implement the high-level agreements and commitments reached during the State visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to Cuba in September 2024, especially regarding food security, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Party, Government, and people of Vietnam consistently support Cuba, demanding that the US end the embargo and remove Cuba from the list of countries believed to be sponsors of terrorism.

The First Secretary and President of Cuba expressed his utmost appreciation for the solidarity and valuable support that the Party, Government, National Assembly, and people of Vietnam have given to Cuba.

The Cuban President emphasized the historical significance of General Secretary To Lam's visit to Cuba in 2024, which will open a new chapter in bilateral relations.

Mr. Miguel Diaz Canel welcomed and highly appreciated the presence and effective operation of Vietnamese businesses cooperating and investing in Cuba, affirming that Cuba is always interested in creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to develop and expand their business and investment activities in Cuba, bringing benefits to both sides.

Both sides agreed on the need to continue strengthening exchanges of delegations and high-level contacts, and to regularly implement bilateral dialogue and cooperation mechanisms, including political consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the Intergovernmental Committee, theoretical seminars between the two Parties, and defense policy dialogues, in order to review and promote the effective implementation of cooperation agreements.

Both sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate the implementation of diverse activities to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025), and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year, contributing to educating the younger generation of both countries about the tradition of special friendship and solidarity between the two peoples.

The two leaders also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, agreeing to coordinate closely at multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), South-South Cooperation, and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).

On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed President Luong Cuong's invitation to Cuba to send a delegation to participate in the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi in October 2025.
