Promoting high-quality investment cooperation between Vietnam and Saudi Arabia and the Middle East region

During his working trip to Saudi Arabia, on October 28 (local time), Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung attended the opening ceremony of the 9th Future Investment Initiative (FII) Conference, which took place at the King Abdul Aziz International Convention Center in the capital Riyadh, and received Saudi Arabian Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal bin Fadhil Al-Ibrahim and representatives of large corporations and enterprises of Saudi Arabia.

According to a VNA reporter reporting from Riyadh, the FII Conference is one of the world's most prestigious and largest annual investment forums. The 9th FII Conference brings together more than 20 heads of state, government representatives and more than 9,000 delegates from nearly 100 countries, including policymakers, leaders of multinational corporations and the world's leading sovereign wealth funds.

With the theme "Key to Prosperity: Exploring New Frontiers of Growth", the 9th FII Conference focused on discussing trends shaping the future of global economics and investment, especially in the areas of new technology, artificial intelligence (AI), sustainable development and energy transition.

The participation of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung at the 9th FII Conference affirms Vietnam's strong message of its commitment to proactive international integration, being a reliable partner and attractive destination, ready to welcome international investment flows. This is also an important opportunity for Vietnam to introduce its dynamic investment and business environment, new incentive policies, as well as key national projects to attract high-quality investment capital from the Middle East and around the world.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung met with Saudi Arabia's Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal bin Fadhil Al-Ibrahim and received representatives of large corporations and enterprises of Saudi Arabia, including LEK Group and 500 Saudi Arabia.

At the meeting with the Minister of Economy and Planning of Saudi Arabia, the Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the great achievements in economic development of Saudi Arabia, notably the diversification and development of non-oil economic sectors, promoting the application of science and technology, innovation, and prioritizing green and sustainable development. The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the important role of the Ministry of Economy and Planning of Saudi Arabia, especially the role of Minister Al-Ibrahim.

Emphasizing that Vietnam is also in the process of economic restructuring and growth model innovation, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung hopes that Saudi Arabia will share its experience on this issue. Affirming that the relationship between the two countries has developed well in recent times, the Deputy Prime Minister asked the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Economy and Planning to continue promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation, as well as promoting the strengths and complementarities of the two economies. Regarding trade cooperation, the Deputy Prime Minister asked Saudi Arabia to increase imports of Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products; support Vietnamese enterprises in accessing the market for goods and services according to Halal standards; as well as research and develop Halal industrial zones in Vietnam.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister assessed that the two countries could promote cooperation in the fields of solar energy, wind energy, green hydrogen production and energy storage technology in Vietnam. The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that Saudi Arabia guide Saudi Arabia's National Investment Funds, state-owned corporations and private enterprises to seek investment opportunities in Vietnam; cooperate in developing new economic models (financial centers, free trade zones, smart urban areas, duty-free zones, digital economy, knowledge economy, etc.). The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese Government is ready to create all favorable conditions for Saudi Arabian enterprises to cooperate in investment and business in the Vietnamese market.

Believing that the two countries have dynamically developing economies that represent the Southeast Asia and Middle East regions, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung hopes that the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Economy and Planning will closely coordinate with relevant Vietnamese agencies in exchanging, building policies and connecting the two economies for the benefit of the two countries as well as ASEAN and the Gulf region.

Previously, on October 27, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung visited and worked at the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) - an international organization for global digital policy and strategy cooperation. Receiving the Deputy Prime Minister, Ms. Deemah AIYahya, Secretary General of DCO, introduced the operational objectives, outstanding results and positive contributions of DCO, especially in promoting the development of the digital economy. Ms. AIYahya respectfully invited Vietnam to become an official member of DCO. DCO has an AI project in Vietnam and cooperates with the Ministry of Science and Technology. Assessing that Vietnam has great potential in developing the digital economy, Ms. AIYahya expressed her desire to promote cooperation between Vietnam and DCO in this field.

Affirming the extremely important role of the digital economy, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that Vietnam aims for the digital economy to soon contribute about 20% to the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam has a dynamic economy with a high growth rate, abundant human resources, and full conditions to promote cooperation and create new breakthroughs in the digital economy.

Also on October 27, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung received Mr. Hassan Hallas, a telecommunications technology entrepreneur, currently Co-founder and Chairman of Lyve Global and Co-founder and Partner of WeBuild Ventures; and Mr. Emad Mostaque, Founder and CEO of Intelligent Internet. At the meetings, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed studying the possibility of cooperation between Lyve Global and Vietnamese enterprises in developing logistics and digital payment platforms, serving import-export and e-commerce.

The Deputy Prime Minister proposed that WeBuild Ventures coordinate with the National Innovation Center (NIC) to incubate and invest in Vietnamese startups. The Deputy Prime Minister said that to realize the common goal of developing open computing infrastructure and sovereign AI, Vietnam proposed that Intelligent Internet coordinate with relevant agencies to launch a strategic pilot program. The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese Government is committed to creating a stable and transparent investment environment for international investors, including Lyve Global, WeBuild Ventures and Intelligent Internet.
