In recent times, the agricultural sector has continued to affirm its key role in the economic development of the two provinces of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan. With their own potentials and strengths, both localities have gradually formed a value chain of typical agricultural products, contributing to increasing people's income and building regional brands.
To date, Thai Nguyen province has had 315 products recognized as achieving OCOP from 3 to 5 stars, of which 6 products achieved 5 stars at the national level. Meanwhile, Bac Kan province has 245 products achieving OCOP from 3 to 5 stars, of which 4 products achieved 5 stars. Many typical agricultural products, especially OCOP products of the two provinces, have been increasingly present in supermarkets, traditional markets as well as the display system of cooperatives in Thai Nguyen province.
For example, at the store introducing and selling agricultural products of Huyen Han Agricultural Cooperative, in Tan Thinh Ward (Thai Nguyen City), typical products of the two provinces of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan account for 60% of the total of more than 200 items that the Cooperative is trading.
Ms. Dang Thi Huyen, Director of Huyen Han Agricultural Cooperative: We are currently trading typical agricultural products, OCOP products of 20 provinces and cities nationwide. After more than 5 years of operation, we have realized that products from Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan always have a special attraction to consumers.
According to Ms. Huyen, products such as tea, vermicelli, dried bamboo shoots, wild honey, turmeric powder, herbs, etc. from the two provinces of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan are widely consumed and receive positive feedback from consumers both inside and outside the province. In particular, some items are also ordered periodically every month by a group of loyal customers.

As for the store of Bac Nguyen Agricultural Cooperative (Tan Thinh Ward), the staff here are rushing to complete the steps to prepare for the store opening in early July. Although it has not opened yet, inside the store there are many typical agricultural products of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan neatly arranged on display shelves, ready to welcome customers.
Ms. Vu Thi Huyen Trang, Director of Bac Nguyen Agricultural Cooperative: Stemming from the desire to bring consumers clean, safe agricultural products with clear origins from cooperatives in Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan, in early June, I and some members decided to establish a new cooperative. The name "Bac Nguyen" was combined from the names of the two provinces as a way to show the connection and companionship between two lands with great potential for agriculture.
Bac Nguyen Agricultural Cooperative will focus on distributing both fresh and dried products. In addition to its strong products such as clean tea, sticky rice, vermicelli, dried bamboo shoots, etc., the store also provides fruits such as oranges, tangerines, melons and livestock meat such as pork and beef. All are carefully selected from cooperatives and farms that meet VietGAP standards in the two provinces, in order to meet the increasing demand for clean, high-quality food of the urban community.
Not only at the stores of many cooperatives, agricultural products of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan are also present on many shelves in supermarkets, clean food stores and markets in Thai Nguyen province. At GO supermarkets, Minh Cau, Thai market..., consumers can easily find products with strong regional imprints such as Tan Cuong tea, Bac Kan snow tea, dong vermicelli, turmeric powder, Bac Kan dried bamboo shoots.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh, a resident of Thinh Dan Ward (Thai Nguyen City) said: My family really likes local agricultural products, especially Bac Kan vermicelli and Bao Thai Dinh Hoa rice. These products have a distinct flavor, and at the same time, I feel more secure because I know clearly the origin and production process.
Ms. Vu Thi Thu Huong, Vice President of the Thai Nguyen Province Cooperative Union, shared: The merger of Thai Nguyen and Bac Kan provinces will create positive changes in the agricultural production sector. The agricultural ecosystem in the area will become more diverse and richer, especially with products owned by cooperatives, cooperative groups and craft villages.
