Concluding the conference, the National Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing requested ministries, branches and localities to continue to effectively implement the work of combating IUU fishing to complete the criteria for registering fishing vessels, preventing and ending the situation of fishing vessels violating regulations; thoroughly resolving existing problems and limitations according to the EC's recommendations, implementing the goal of "removing the yellow card" according to the direction of the Secretariat, the Government, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment .
Authorities need to strengthen management of fishing vessel owners and inspect, control and monitor fishing vessel activities at sea, fishing vessels entering and leaving ports and resolutely handle cases of vessels violating regulations against IUU fishing.
In recent times, Thanh Hoa province has implemented synchronous and drastic solutions to combat IUU fishing. Therefore, the awareness of fishermen, organizations and individuals about the Fisheries Law and documents guiding the implementation of the Law has been raised and has had positive changes. However, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing still occurs. Since the beginning of 2025, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has established a working group to organize 3 inspections on combating IUU fishing and coordinate with functional forces to patrol and control at sea, inlets, and at fishing ports. Accordingly, the inspection teams have detected and recorded 79 violations with a total fine of more than 880 million VND. At the same time, strictly implement the monitoring of fishing vessel activities through the VMS system, monitor the output of exploited aquatic products, manage fishing vessels, etc. |
