According to a VNA reporter in Paris, on the afternoon of December 4 (local time), at the Vietnam Cultural Center in France, the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development (VFDA) and the Organization of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts Global (AVSE Global) in coordination with the Embassy of Vietnam in France held a seminar with the theme "Vietnamese and French Cinema: Opportunities for Cooperation," attracting the participation of many Vietnamese and French artists, filmmakers and film critics who are actively working in the fields of creation, production and distribution.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang said that in recent times, Vietnam-France exchanges have been taking place vigorously in many fields. Along with that, the cinemas of the two countries are also exploring increasingly effective and significant cooperation directions that better serve the development of cinema in each country.

The General Representative of the French Association of Authors-Directors-Producers (ARP) Mathieu Ripka expressed: “Why not set a beautiful goal: this year, a French-Iranian co-production will represent France at the Oscars; and it is entirely conceivable that one day, a French-Vietnamese co-production will also represent France at the Oscars. Vietnam is clearly an inseparable part of this story, with a large number of Vietnamese living in France, and also a large number of French people of Vietnamese origin. The two countries will continue to exchange, especially in the field of cinema, between artists of both sides, and that will contribute to maintaining and developing this good relationship.”

President of the Vietnam Film Promotion and Development Association (VFDA) Ngo Phuong Lan said that Vietnam is at a time when cinema is very developed, especially in 2025 - a year marking a remarkable development in the market share of Vietnamese films, the growth of the Vietnamese cinema market and especially in recent times, there have been many Vietnamese films, young filmmakers, independent filmmakers whose creativity has been invited, recognized and awarded at international film festivals.

Believing that it is very important that the creative atmosphere and filmmaking atmosphere in Vietnam today, thanks to the weekly and monthly successes in theaters and in the market, stimulates investors and filmmakers not only in Vietnam but also in some countries in the Asian region, as well as in the world to come to Vietnam, the former Director of the Department of Cinema expressed his hope that 2026 will be a year of stronger and more effective development and will truly bring more specific and effective results in the cooperation between Vietnamese and French cinema.

Young filmmaker Le Binh Giang shared: “As a young filmmaker, I always want to find opportunities to cooperate with international filmmakers, especially in France, the cradle of many talented directors and famous films. I hope to learn and cooperate with filmmakers and film funds in France to get closer to world cinema. In the future, I also hope there will be more cooperation programs between France and Vietnam to promote the development of cinema in both countries. When we develop together, we not only create value for cinema but also contribute to promoting culture, tourism and the image of Vietnam internationally.”

Proposing solutions to help the two film industries increase exchanges, effectively exploit each other's resources, and jointly create projects that are competitive in the global market, Mr. Mathieu Ripka commented: “This cooperation can continue to be expanded, especially in the field of distribution: creating conditions for French films to access the Vietnamese market and Vietnamese films to access the French market. And finally, why not consider the field of cinema exploitation, which is also a strength of France. We have a cinema system everywhere in the territory, and we are very knowledgeable in this field of exploitation. All of that requires more exchanges.”

The seminar “Vietnamese and French Cinema: Opportunities for Cooperation” is one of the key activities of the “Vietnamese Cinema - Journey of Light” Week taking place at Le Grand Rex cinema - the largest cinema in Europe and also one of the cultural symbols of Paris.

This week includes many rich activities, including the introduction of 17 famous films of Vietnamese cinema, training programs and co-production projects, aiming to create opportunities for connection, improve quality and expand the market for Vietnamese cinema./.
