Giai Phong - Kim Dong underpass is a key project of the city in the 2021 - 2025 period to overcome traffic congestion between Ring Road 2.5 and Giai Phong Road, gradually completing the Ring Road 2.5 route according to the approved plan, ensuring smooth traffic through Giap Bat freight station. After completion, the underpass will have a scale of 4 lanes, the total length of the tunnel and approach road is 890m in the direction of Ring Road 2.5, of which the closed tunnel is 140m long, the open tunnel is 320m long. The section through the tunnel has 2 lanes each way, 3.5m wide/lane, the section outside the tunnel has 3 lanes each way, 3.5m wide/lane. This is the 5th underpass in the capital built from 2009 to present, after the Kim Lien - Xa Dan, Trung Hoa, Thanh Xuan, and Le Van Luong tunnels.
