General Secretary To Lam: Turn cyberspace into a space of law

VTV.vn - This evening (October 25), General Secretary To Lam had a meeting with the Heads of delegations of countries attending the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention.

On behalf of the Party, State and People of Vietnam, General Secretary To Lam warmly welcomed international guests to Vietnam to attend the signing ceremony and the High-level Conference on the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime ( Hanoi Convention); affirming that the presence of representatives of more than 100 countries demonstrates the spirit of international solidarity and the strong cooperative relationship between Vietnam and other countries.

"Today, in Hanoi, we have become historical witnesses to the beginning of a new global cooperation process in preventing and combating cybercrime. The Convention against Cybercrime is the result of a nearly five-year negotiation process. The signing of the Convention has created a universal, global legal framework to prevent and combat cybercrime, better ensuring sovereignty, security and safety in cyberspace. We are extremely proud that Hanoi - the heart of Vietnam - was unanimously chosen by the United Nations members as the place to open the signing of the Convention, demonstrating the recognition of the United Nations members for our country's contributions in preventing and combating cybercrime. More broadly, it is also the international community's appreciation of Vietnam's efforts in promoting world peace and security as well as Vietnam's role and position in the international arena," General Secretary To Lam emphasized.

General Secretary To Lam also affirmed that Vietnam’s current international status and position cannot be achieved without the enthusiastic and generous support, both materially and spiritually, from the international community. Vietnam is always aware that the above-mentioned development achievements cannot be achieved without a peaceful and secure environment.

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that in the context of a volatile world, Vietnam is committed to continuing to actively contribute to cyber security, sustainable development and international cooperation for a peaceful, stable and prosperous world.

"I believe that the signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention will mark a new program in global cooperation and network governance, turning cyberspace into a space of law, cooperation and development. Vietnam calls on countries to soon ratify the Convention so that it can soon come into effect. Vietnam also commits to working with countries and international organizations to promote cooperation in exploiting the potential of cyberspace as well as preventing and combating cybercrime, for peace, stability and sustainable development of countries and for a peaceful and happy life for all people in the world," General Secretary To Lam affirmed.

At the same time, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that Vietnam is determined to pursue the path of innovation and expand international cooperation for peace and development; and believes that the Hanoi Convention will open a new chapter in global cyber governance. Vietnam is committed to working with other countries to promote cooperation, prevent and combat cybercrime, for security, happiness and common prosperity.
