On December 8, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a plan to organize a series of activities to celebrate the New Year. The highlight is the fireworks display from 0:00 to 0:15 on January 1, 2026.
According to the plan, the high-altitude fireworks display will take place at 3 locations including the Saigon River tunnel entrance (An Khanh ward), the New City center ( Binh Duong ward), Tam Thang square (Vung Tau ward); combined with a low-altitude display at Dam Sen Cultural Park (Binh Thoi ward), creating a festival space throughout the city.
Not only fireworks, the atmosphere to welcome the new year this year will be more exciting with a series of cultural and artistic programs. On the night of December 31, the countdown program to welcome the new year 2026 will take place at Nguyen Hue walking street (Saigon ward), expected to attract a large number of people and tourists. The event can be expanded to Le Loi street, Lam Son park and the area in front of the City Theater, turning the center of Ho Chi Minh City into the biggest "outdoor stage" of the year.
In Vung Tau ward, the series of activities "Opening the Dawn Waves 2025" takes place from December 27 to January 1, 2026, including a sunrise run, yoga performances, art programs and a culinary culture festival.

At the same time, Binh Duong also organized an outdoor art program to celebrate the New Year at the Park in front of the old Provincial Administrative Center, promising to bring a bustling atmosphere to residents and visitors.
Many wards and communes in Ho Chi Minh City such as Dau Tieng, Xuan Son, Phu Thanh... have also proactively organized community cultural activities to celebrate the New Year. Besides the New Year festival, HCMC Marathon 2026 - the city's annual race - will take place from January 9 to January 11, 2026, opening the series of sports events of the year.
New Year’s Day 2026 falls on a Thursday, giving workers a day off with full pay. However, some workers are planning to take Friday off, extending the holiday to four days.
