Ho Chi Minh City celebrates 65 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba

The ceremony took place at a special time, as this year marks a memorable milestone of special significance in the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said that in 2025, the year of Vietnam - Cuba friendship, the two countries will strengthen and deepen their friendly relations through regular high-level exchanges and contacts, notably the visits of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and President of the National Assembly and President of the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández to Vietnam.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc mentioned that Vietnam has recently organized activities to accompany the Cuban people, including the movement "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship" - a nationwide campaign to support Cuba lasting for 65 days. Just 20 days after launching, on the occasion of the Cuban President 's State visit to Vietnam, General Secretary To Lam donated nearly 385 billion VND to support the Cuban people. By the end of the campaign, the total amount of money raised was more than 610 billion VND.

In the current period, the Party, State and People of the two countries continue to stand side by side, strengthen solidarity, exchange experiences and promote cooperation for common prosperity. On that basis, Mr. Duoc said that Ho Chi Minh City is proud to be the pioneering force, actively tightening relations with Cuba. To date, Ho Chi Minh City has signed friendly cooperation agreements with Santiago de Cuba province, Artemisa province, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba, and the Ministry of Health of Cuba.

Recently, responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross to support the Cuban people, Ho Chi Minh City has mobilized nearly 13 billion VND after 60 days of campaigning.

“We would like to send our Cuban brothers a message that the Vietnamese people, including the people of Ho Chi Minh City, have been, are and will always stand side by side with the Cuban people on every step of development,” said Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc.

Also at the event, Cuban Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Ariadne Feo Labrada praised Cuba and Vietnam for maintaining an exemplary relationship throughout history in international relations, constantly cultivating through many generations a special friendship, brotherly spirit and mutual support in all fields without being influenced by any geopolitical interests.

Recent years have been marked by many achievements, as the ties between the two countries continue to grow in all fields. Ms. Ariadne Feo Labrada also expressed her gratitude for all the contributions and support that Cuba has received from the Vietnamese people, especially from Ho Chi Minh City.

The Cuban Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City quoted the saying of Cuban national hero José Martí: “It is impossible to do great things without great friends”. She said that this saying reminds of the friendship that the Cuban and Vietnamese people have cultivated together. Ms. Ariadne Feo Labrada also emphasized that the saying of Cuban leader Fidel Castro: “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to give its blood” has been deeply imprinted in the minds of many generations.
