Ho Chi Minh City announces information on the 3 subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam in 2026.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has released information on the three subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year, the first admission round after the merger.

On October 17th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced the three subjects for the 2026 10th grade entrance exam: mathematics, literature, and a foreign language (primarily English).

According to the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the 2026 entrance exam for 10th grade will be the first entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City after its merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

The organization of the entrance examination will follow the principle of maintaining stability in the subjects tested, the structure of the exam questions, and the level of assessment, ensuring that schools, teachers, parents, and students can feel secure in their teaching and in guiding their studies and preparing for the exam.

It is expected that in October, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will issue sample exam questions for each subject in the entrance exam, including the structure, assessment requirements, and a description of competencies and levels of thinking.

Based on this, schools and teachers will develop teaching plans and provide review guidance for students according to the matrix, structure, and assessment level of the exam questions for each subject.

For each subject in the entrance exam, it is expected that the basic exam questions will consist of 60% knowledge at the recognition and comprehension level and 40% knowledge at the application and higher-level application level.

The exams still focus on testing students' ability to apply their knowledge, using subject matter to solve real-life problems, meeting the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program.

Reportedly, after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City has 490 public and private junior high schools with over 750,000 students. The estimated number of 9th-grade students for the 2025-2026 school year is approximately 150,000. Currently, the city has nearly 300 high schools.
