On October 17, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City informed about the 3 entrance exams for grade 10 in 2026 including math, literature and foreign language (mainly English).
According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the 10th grade entrance exam in 2026 is the first entrance exam of Ho Chi Minh City after the merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau .

The organization of the entrance exam will follow the principle of maintaining stability in terms of exam subjects, exam structure, and assessment level, ensuring that schools, teachers, parents, and students feel secure in teaching, learning, and review orientation.
It is expected that in October, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will issue sample questions for each entrance exam subject, including structure, assessment requirements and a table describing capacity and thinking level.
Based on that, schools and teachers will develop teaching plans and review orientations for students according to the matrix, structure, and assessment level of the questions in each exam subject.
In each entrance exam subject, it is expected that the basic exam will have 60% knowledge at the recognition and understanding level and 40% knowledge at the application and high application level.
The exams are still oriented towards testing students' ability to apply knowledge, applying subject knowledge to solve real-life problems, meeting the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program.
It is known that after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City has 490 public and non-public secondary schools with more than 750,000 students. The number of 9th grade students in the 2025-2026 school year is estimated at about 150,000. Currently, the city has nearly 300 high schools.
