A rare albino python, about 5m long and weighing more than 90kg, has just been donated to Dong Tam snake farm by people in Soc Trang .
The Center for Cultivation, Research and Processing of Medicinal Herbs, Department of Logistics of Military Region 9 (Dong Tam snake farm) in Binh Duc commune, Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province said that it had just received a "giant" albino python from a shrimp farmer in Tran De district, Soc Trang province.
Accordingly, this python is about 5m long, weighs more than 90kg - identified as an albino python, scientific name is Python bivittatus, belongs to group IIB in the list of rare and endangered forest animals.
This python was raised by a local resident. When the owner saw it growing bigger, he decided to give it to Dong Tam Snake Farm for conservation and breeding purposes.
Captain Luong Minh Hai, Deputy Head of the Medicinal Herb Cultivation Team of Dong Tam Snake Farm, said that the python was healthy and needed many people to carry it into the cage and it adapted quickly to its new living environment.
Captain Hai added that this precious python has high value in conservation and breeding work.
The "giant" python is very beautiful, so many tourists come to admire, take pictures and film it.
In addition to the newly acquired python, Dong Tam snake farm is also raising about 6 ground pythons weighing from 70 to 100 kg. Pythons feed on birds, chickens, ducks, mice, etc. and they usually lay 12 to 48 eggs, incubating for 2 to 3 months. The lifespan of a python is about 25 years, and it weighs about 100 kg.
Dong Tam Snake Farm has an emergency department for treating venomous snakes, a snake museum, a zoo, and an eco-tourism garden.
Dong Tam Snake Farm has about 2,000 snakes of 40 different species raised in natural and semi-natural environments. Of these, the two most “loved” species are cobras and king cobras.
