On the evening of December 9th (local time) in Caracas, the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela, in coordination with the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies, solemnly organized a ceremony to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Venezuela (December 18, 1989 - December 18, 2024).
According to the VNA correspondent in Latin America, attending the ceremony were Vice President and Chairman of the Venezuela-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee Jorge Márquez; People's Inspector General Alfredo José Ruiz Angulo; Minister of Foreign Affairs Yvan Gil Pinto; representatives of the Venezuela-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group; and representatives from ministries, departments, localities, international organizations, and diplomatic missions in Venezuela.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela Vu Trung My highlighted the historical significance of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Venezuela and reviewed the important achievements of cooperation between the two countries in recent years. He emphasized that Vietnam and Latin American countries in general, and Vietnam and Venezuela in particular, share a good traditional friendship and solidarity, stemming from similarities in their history of national liberation struggles and their love for peace, freedom, and justice.
During the years when Vietnam waged its struggle for national liberation and reunification, along with progressive, peace-loving people around the world, the people of Latin American countries, including the people and progressive forces of Venezuela, spearheaded anti-war movements and supported the just struggle of the Vietnamese people. The Party, State, and people of Vietnam always remember these pure and noble sentiments of international solidarity for the Vietnamese revolutionary cause.
Affirming that the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Venezuela is a proud milestone in the long history of relations between the two countries, Ambassador Vu Trung My said that this is also an opportunity to look back on the Vietnam-Venezuela relationship from the past to the present, and at the same time create momentum for this good relationship to continue to develop further, making positive contributions to the development of each country as well as helping to strengthen the international position of both Vietnam and Venezuela.
According to the Ambassador, the first and foremost task of the two governments is to find ways to continue effectively implementing and further deepening the comprehensive Vietnam-Venezuela partnership in all fields, with a focus on prioritizing cooperation in key areas such as oil and gas, agriculture, telecommunications, and tourism.
On behalf of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), the State, Government, and people of Venezuela, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yvan Gil Pinto emphasized the profound significance of establishing diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Vietnam. He also respectfully conveyed the warm congratulations of President Nicolas Maduro to General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, and other high-ranking leaders of the Party, State, Government, and people of Vietnam.
Foreign Minister Yvan Gil affirmed that the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership between the two countries have continued to be promoted and strengthened across all three pillars: Party diplomacy, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy.
In addition, parliamentary diplomacy and relations between localities of the two countries have also been strengthened.
In particular, the friendly and cooperative relationship between our Party and the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) has been strengthened, providing a favorable political basis for bilateral relations.
According to Mr. Yvan Gil, during the 35th anniversary year, the two countries exchanged many high-level visits, notably the visit in April 2024 by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang to Venezuela; his personal visits to Vietnam in June; and the visit of PSUV Politburo member and Vice President Delcy Rodriguez to Vietnam in October.
Most recently, the PSUV Vice President for External Affairs, Rander Peña, visited last December.
In particular, the meeting between President Nicolas Maduro and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in October demonstrated the level of political trust and close relationship between the two parties and governments.
Minister Yvan Gil expressed confidence that, building on the achievements in the traditional relationship and comprehensive partnership over the past period, and with the aspirations of the two ruling parties, the determination of the two governments, and the wishes of the people of both countries, Venezuela and Vietnam will enter a new era of cooperation, making a positive contribution to the development of each country, and to peace, happiness, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world.
As part of the activities commemorating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Venezuela, the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela, in coordination with the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies, organized numerous events such as: Vietnam Day in Venezuela; photo exhibitions "Vietnam, the Country and its People" and "The 35-Year Journey of Vietnam-Venezuela Relations"; and other activities such as talks and seminars…
