North Korea deploys new weapons

On May 11, North Korea announced that it will deploy a new type of 240mm multiple launch rocket system to the military, starting this year.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the updated multiple rocket system with high mobility and firepower concentration, and an automatic combined fire control system, will be deployed to units of the Korean People's Army as replacement equipment in 2024-2026. North Korea expects the new weapon system to strengthen its artillery combat capabilities.

According to KCNA, since February this year, North Korea announced the development of artillery shells for the 240mm guided rocket launcher. The North Korean side also announced that it had launched 8 artillery shells that hit the target. This proves the superiority and destructive power of the 240mm caliber multiple rocket launcher system and the guided artillery shells for this system.

Also according to KCNA, on May 10, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un learned about the latest technological version of the multiple launch rocket system and inspected the test launch of artillery shells at a North Korean defense industry enterprise.
