In a statement reported by North Korean media on October 13, the North Korean Ministry of Defense said the military had issued a preliminary combat order to artillery forces and other military units near the South Korean border to "prepare to fire."
A spokesperson for the ministry said "serious military tensions are ongoing on the Korean Peninsula" due to South Korea's drone launches.
The North Korean military has ordered relevant units to be fully prepared for all eventualities, including immediate attacks on unidentified enemy targets, as South Korea continues to launch drones across the border, potentially triggering fighting on the Korean Peninsula.

Earlier on October 11, North Korea accused South Korea of using drones to drop leaflets over Pyongyang three times this month, and threatened to retaliate with force if it happened again.
Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, warned on October 12 that the discovery of another new South Korean drone "would certainly lead to a terrible catastrophe."
South Korea declined to confirm the drone launch, but issued a stern warning to North Korea if the safety of South Korean citizens was threatened.
Hostility between North Korea and South Korea is at its worst level in years, fueled by North Korean missile tests and intensified U.S.-South Korean military exercises.
All channels of communication and exchange programs between the two countries have remained stalled since 2019, when diplomatic talks between the US and North Korea on ending Pyongyang's nuclear program collapsed.
