On the afternoon of October 13th, the Vietnam U17 women's team defeated the Guam U17 women's team 5-0 in their opening match of Group D in the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship qualifiers, held at Go Dau Stadium (Thu Dau Mot Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
Compared to the Vietnamese women's football team (ranked 37th in the world ), the Guam women's football team is quite weak (ranked 98th in the world). Therefore, the Vietnamese U17 women's team easily dominated the match. Throughout the game, the ball almost exclusively rolled in the Guam U17 women's team's half of the field.
However, facing the defensive tactics of the Guam U17 women's team, the Vietnam U17 women's team also struggled in the first 20 minutes of the match. Coach Okiyama Masahiko's strikers had almost no truly dangerous attacking opportunities.
In that deadlock, star player Nguyen Thi Minh Anh shone with a brace before the end of the first half. In the 21st minute, the number 10 striker scored the opening goal with a shot from a tight angle. Twenty minutes later, Minh Anh doubled the lead with a spectacular volley inside the penalty area.

In the 72nd minute, Minh Ánh capped off her outstanding performance with a long-range shot that beat goalkeeper Ahela Kaae, extending Vietnam's U17 women's team's lead to 4-0. Not stopping there, Hồng Thái scored with a header in the 86th minute, sealing a 5-0 victory for the home team.
The resounding victory in their opening match gives the Vietnam U17 women's team a significant advantage in the race to qualify for the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship finals.
According to the schedule, the Guam U17 women's team will face the Hong Kong U17 women's team on October 15th. The Vietnam U17 women's team will meet the Hong Kong U17 women's team in the final match on October 17th.
The Vietnam U17 women's team recently completed a two-week training camp in Germany.
In preparation for the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Championship qualifiers and for the future, the Vietnamese U17 women's team underwent a two-week training camp in Germany as part of a cooperation program between the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Bundesliga.
Here, coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team had the opportunity to experience training and competitive matches at two historically significant clubs, Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen.
